XC90 [Official] 2015 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken in Sweden. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90. However, in September 2024, Volvo launched the second facelift of XC90, and stated that both models would be sold together.
I saw it for the first time in person few days ago.

Although it's a large vehicle - it looks less bulky and more elegant than it's German rivals. (if an SUV can be elegant).

Thumbs up for Volvo as far as I am concerned(y).

Volvo XC90 T5 introduced in the United States

The Volvo XC90 was recently named the North American Truck/Utility of the Year and the company is hoping to keep that momentum going by introducing a new entry-level variant in the United States.

Set to slot beneath the XC90 T6, the $44,945 XC90 T5 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive system that enables the model to return 22 miles per gallon city and 26 mpg highway.

An all-wheel drive system is optional and it costs an additional $2,000. Thankfully, the crossover's fuel efficiency is largely kept intact as the all-wheel drive variant returns a respectable 22 mpg city / 25 mpg highway.

Despite costing $3,850 less than the XC90 T6, the T5 variant comes nicely equipped with a panoramic glass sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior isn't spartan either as drivers will find power front seats, a digital instrument cluster, and GPS navigation. The model can also be equipped with a long list of options but unfortunately a third row seat isn't one of them.

Volvo starts production of XC90 Excellence, updates range for MY 2017

Volvo will start making the XC90 Excellence model this year, its most luxurious production car. Along with the four-seat SUV, Volvo will improve its range for the 2017 Model Year.

Volvo's new XC90 Excellence comes with four individually adjustable seats and with extended leather-covered surfaces.

The premium SUV also features distinct upholstery, hand-crafted crystal glasses in dedicated holders, the latter elements being made by Orrefors, the famous Swedish glass maker.

Furthermore, the XC90 features specially designed headrests, a massage function for its seats, two folding tables for rear occupants, a cup holder with heating and cooling options, along with a built-in refrigerator.

The luxurious version of the XC90 premium SUV is not the only improvement to the Volvo lineup introduced this year. The model will be available in the United States market starting this summer.

Meanwhile, the S90, V90, and XC90 will get the semi-autonomous driving technology called Pilot Assist II as standard in selected markets. Thanks to the SPA modular architecture that the three models share, the technology allows users to enjoy semi-autonomous driving features at speeds of up to 80 MPH (130 km/h) in well-marked highways.

Volvo's safety credentials get an enhancement thanks to the improvements brought by the City Safety system, the technology that allows Volvo vehicles that feature it to avoid or mitigate frontal impacts at certain speeds.

For the S90/V90/XC90 models, the system features Large Animal Detection, while the entire range of cars that have City Safety will get steering assistance to enable run-off-road mitigation, the most frequent cause of single-vehicle accidents. This means that the system will identify if the car is going to go accidentally off-road and will try its best to prevent that from happening.

The entire Volvo range will get an update to the Volvo On Call app, and that delivers connectivity with a smartphone and the Microsoft Band 2. The models compatible with the technology will get calendar integration function and will allow users to set the navigation system to a certain destination introduced in their calendar.

Up to ten Volvo vehicles could be connected to the same user for certain functions, improving utility for fleet operators. Volvo's On Call application will be extended on PCs and tablets for more interaction possibilities.

The three Volvo models that currently feature the SPA architecture, the S90, V90, and XC90 will get extended connectivity options. We are talking about several native apps, including Spotify integration in the car's multimedia system. Customers can also record their voice and send a memo to themselves as a reminder, as well as an enhanced local search into the Sensus multimedia interface.

Volvo's 60 Series gets improvements for the 2017 Model Year as well.

Volvo has a big hit with this thing. They're everywhere now. I've even seen a bright red one now. I just wish they'd develop a new I6 engine. I won't own one with a 4-cylinder, no matter how much hp it has.

Volvo XC90 T8 pumped by Polestar to 421 hp

Polestar has a proven track record of making Volvos perform better, but this latest range of performance enhancements the most powerful Volvo yet.

The upgrades are designed specifically the flagship XC90 T8 Twin Engine, and increase output from 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque to 421 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. That's rather remarkable when you consider that it's all coming from a tiny 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine – albeit turbocharged, supercharged, with direct injection, and boosted by an electric motor. The result is a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) of 5.5 seconds, without hampering the plug-in hybrid's economy.

Volvo's in-house tuning department also promises better response from the throttle and transmission as part of the package, making the hybrid crossover feel faster as well as go faster. As a result of the enhancements, it will hold a lower gear in the corner, keeping it tight and preventing a mid-corner shift that could unsettle the vehicle's handling.

The enhancements are available immediately, and we suspect it won't be long before they're made available on the lighter S90 sedan and V90 wagon as well.

421 Moose and 680 Nm... Who again was saying Volvo needed bigger engines ;)

^ I'm sorry, it's actually 257 Moose. I couldn't find the hp to moose calculator on google, so I had to do the math myself. It involves poor drag due to the palmate antlers, and cold weather. Quite complicated so spare me please.

Never mind, the moose-part was great

XC90 T8 pull away is pretty quick:

0-100 in approx. 6sec
0-160 in approx. 15sec
0-200 in approx. 30sec

I gotta agree with you, they built those 2.0 4's with the old testing regime in mind, now that's all changed they will be left out in the cold.

That said this engine is also supposed to come as a 3 cylinder, so if they can remove a cylinder how hard would it be to add 2 cylinders, JLR and Mercedes have done it with their new modular engines so Volvo should be able to do it with there's.

Volvo Offers $23,500 Off Leftover 2017 XC90 T8 Excellence Models

open.webp

You don’t hear every day about such a big discount on a new model, with Volvo offering $23,500 off the remaining stock of its range-topping XC90 T8 Excellence models.

Carsdirect reports that the Swedish company opted to offer an unadvertised discount in order to help its dealers clear their leftover MY2017 stock.

The offer will reportedly be eligible up until August 31, with Volvo giving a $20k bonus for all the remaining XC90 T8 Excellence models. At the same time the company is also offering a $3,500 “conquest bonus” to those coming from a list of eligible competitors.

All these customers have to do is to show proof that they own or lease a model from the following brands: Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jeep, Lexus, Lincoln and Mercedes-Benz. It’s not mandatory to trade-in your car and Volvo gives you the option to share the discount with other family members of the same household. Together with the $20k bonus, the potential savings are $23,500.

Volvo has confirmed that the huge discount is true. Normally the XC90 T8 Excellence costs from $105,895 and with the latest offer applied, you could bag one for less than a new Range Rover Sport.

The limited Excellence model represents the top of the XC90 line and comes powered by the same 400hp plug-in hybrid powertrain with the T8 version, featuring a unique spec that includes a four-seat cabin layout with reclining rear seats, a 20-speaker audio system, a rear-seat refrigerator, crystal glasses and a matching gear selector.

With the 2018 Volvo XC90 having already arrived in dealers, it’s possible to find a T8 Excellence model on the low-70k price point, with one dealer advertising an 2017 example at $73,500 after a nearly $9k dealer discount on top of Volvo’s offer.

Leaked images of the new (facelifted) XC90.

From the front it looks kinda like a new generation but the profile, rear and interior says otherwise. While I like how it looks, I thought the EX90 will take its place. Maybe demand is smaller than expected for a full electric version?
