XC90 [Official] 2015 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken in Sweden. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90. However, in September 2024, Volvo launched the second facelift of XC90, and stated that both models would be sold together.
The new EX 90 is still not on sale either.
It has been over a year since I saw it in Berlin.

There are some driving around in Norway. I saw one last week, I think some dealers have them for customer trial. It’s a good looking car, to me it looks smaller than the XC90, I’d need to see both side by side to be sure.

I thought the EX90 will take its place. Maybe demand is smaller than expected for a full electric version?
I thought so too. However, I'm glad that the XC90 lives on as the six figure price of the EX90 is too high. The generational jump is like buying a VW and 7 years later buying a well equipped Cayenne. In this economy, the EX90 price is pie in the sky and I wouldn't be surprised if some who placed an order will or have cancelled.

The XC90 refresh is gorgeous and just right.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. A pretty, practical and airy 7 seater SUV. It's a much needed hedge against the EX90.

The clean front end, design-led grille and champagne colours give off range rover vibes in a good way.

It’s sad that all engines are 4-pots, a car like this deserves at least a six sylinder. But that is the down sizing reality we are living. It’s easier to take the step and jump to a full electric this way….

And that strategy isn’t working and now what you have is 10+ year old ice crossover that is outmatched by the competition.

Visually has aged way better than it's nearest competition, the Q7 which is old and stale. Only thing that puts me off of modern Volvos is the questionable dependability of the powertrains/electronics.

That's kept me away too. I'm Swedish and desperately want to own a Volvo at some point. I have also read that the XC90 warp brake rotors!!

A friend has an XC90 with lots of issues, most were solved under warranty but still not very reliable. I drove it few times and the engine is a big let down, noisy and thirsty cause you have to rev it to move 2tons.
He got an Ioniq 6 for city driving and the Volvo is for long trips to avoid issues.

Buy an older 5-pot one and keep it for the rest of your life. It will probably out-live you.

Everything warps rotors, if you are not mindful.

This. Period.

My father in law had one recently for an extensive test drive. The car will be required to drive at least 30.000 km/yr and replace an X5 3.0d

The XC90 was a better place to be, especially as a passenger. Feels more like an expensive living room than a car. But the X5 just drives better. Also, from my test drive I came away with the same impression as you. The Volvo's 4-pot needs to be worked out in order to get any hint of performance out of it.

Seems they have kept the physical button for hazard light, that is good. In EX90 and other Volvo models they are blindly following Tesla and putting this function on the screen (!). This is not acceptable from a brand which sells hugely on safety. NCAP has confirmed they will remove rating points on cars that doesn’t have a physical button for this finction due to safety reasons. Let’s see how long it will take before Volvo take action on this.

Its amazing what a light nip and tuck does and a 10 year old SUV will still look much better than its newer rivals. I am so happy Volvo has facelifted the XC90 and made it such a good looking SUV, with a rich and luxurious interior that again is even nicer than other rivals. The only major weekness is keeping the same 2.0 inline 4 across the range and not increasing the battery size of the Hybrid version as it still has a louzy range and should be over 100km.

Volvo plan to sell mild and plugin hybrids beyond 2030. I expect the XC90 lineup of engines to be updates in the next 2-3 years.

The car looks great! One of the best looking SUVs on a market. But...

The screen looks outdated already. Why not put a little more effort into practically the only element that can give away a car's age?
