XC90 [Official] 2015 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken in Sweden. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90. However, in September 2024, Volvo launched the second facelift of XC90, and stated that both models would be sold together.
Has anybody on this forum ordered the XC90 yet? If so, how long did/do you have to wait to get the car deliverd? I heard today from my Volvo dealer waitingtime, if ordering today will be at about 9 to 10 months!

Volvo XC90 by Polestar to have at least 350 bhp

Volvo-owned Polestar has announced a beefier XC90 is on its way with an upgraded configuration of the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Drive-E engine.

It was back in February this year when Polestarrevealed plans for an upgraded second generation XC90 and now they have revealed additional information by announcing it will have the newly developed 2.0-liter Drive-E engine. Although it will still be a four-cylinder, Polestar’s chief operating officer mentions it’s going to be “as strong or even stronger” than the outgoing six-cylinder motor. Unsurprisingly, the engine will be both turbocharged and supercharged and is expected to generate at least 350 bhp (261 kW) channeled to the road through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The output figure doesn’t sound very impressive taking into account the hybrid T8 Twin Engine has a combined 400 bhp (298 kW), but keep in mind the Polestar-tuned XC90 will be lighter since it will come without electrical assistance. That being said, the model will still weigh more than 2,000 kg if we consider the 320 bhp T6 AWD tips the scales at 2,126 kg, so don’t expect any mind-blowing performances.

The same uprated engine will also power some other higher specification Volvos and Polestar says they are also considering performance hybrids.

In China,it just doesn't sell due to the 2.0T engine with stupid high prices.

So they want even more smog?

BTW, I saw my first one parked here in The Hague where I live. Looks absolutely amazing (it was a high end T8).

I know it's downright silly to wax poetic about a key-fob, but I really like how elegant it is and how they made it personable by color-matching it to its car's leather. Real nice attention to detail.

^It's the first time I see this key-fob. I'm absolute with you. It's a real nice detail. :)

So this car has really intrigued me so I decided to have a look-see at a dealer.

I think I can say without hyperbole that this is one of the nicest cars I've been in with the exclusion of the S-class, Bentley, or a Rolls.

Firstly, let's start with the exterior... The car is big. The design is masculine and mature but not aggressive. Just a beautiful and handsome exterior. It will age well.

The interior is beautiful, well put-togther, functional, with plenty of space. These start at US$52,000 and the one I sat in a T6 clocked in at an MSRP of $54,000 yet it had an interior that felt of a car that was $10-15K more. In fact, I recently sat in both a Range Rover and RRS, and I thought the fit and finish was much better in the Volvo vs. the Rangies. The only thing I could see the RR/RRS were at an advantage was that the its leather was a bit softer. I checked out the last row as well, and for 20-30 mins stint, it's not bad, even if you are 5'10''

As is usually the case with me, no time to take it out for a test drive, but I want to because I am still very curious/apprehensive about that engine. The numbers sound good and acceptable, but I am curious about the feel of it. Also some of the apprehension lies in how robust and reliable over the long-run such complex engine will be.

Those concerns aside, I think this car is going to be a winner and I look forward to seeing more of these on the streets.

I keep saying this. The US, Asia and some small markets all have to adopt to the real world. "Something for driving around town?" That'll be a Golf. Nothing else.

Have you driven it? How was the acceleration and how refined was it?

Yes. The acceleration was good. It sounded/felt as if it was working hard to get me to 60 mph, with 4 people including myself. Everything else was spot on. Also, in person it appears larger than the pics. I intend to drive it again.

I really wonder how it would drive with seven seated or tugging a trailer. I guess the latter I won't know. :)

I think the I4 engine is the only downside to it. Otherwise it's a gorgeous car all around.

That is one of the most elegant looking key fobs ever, really classy looking and trimmed in leather. It is something that will do justice belonging to a Bentley or Rolls.

In depth review of the features and interior of the car, not much on the actual driving experience. The car looks very attractive in this combination.

Damn that looks good. Volvo is going to be a force in the market in short order at this rate. I'm waiting to see if they do a coupe with this design language. That is their best shot at getting me in one.

I saw one again this morning, at the local BP station.

Damn, what a looker it is.

I admit that such big SUVs aren't desirable to me, and while I find the X5 to look quite good, I don't see myself driving one. Yet, this XC90 looks absolutely brilliant. I don't know how it drives or if these 4-pot hybrids make sense, but I absolutely want one!

I drove it and I'm not sure this will handle 7 people with ease. All else is very nicely done. It looks bigger in person.
