A4/S4/RS4 [Official] 2013 Audi RS4 B8

The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced by Audi. Production: 1994-2025. Predecessor: Audi 80. Successor: Audi A5 (B10).
Great stuff guys. Since the RS4 has such a NA high performance engine I presumed it had individual throttle bodies. Thanks for the clearing up! (y)

No problemo ;) For you - anytime.
Ja - my internal jury is still out on the true beneficial extent of individual throttle bodies (ITBs) for engine response and volumetric flow at high engine rpm. The application of ITB is actually quite limited in modern machinery, even high-revving screamers like the V8s and V12s found in Ferraris don't employ ITBs. Neither did the V10 in the Carrera GT - though each cylinder did get its own inlet trumpet fed by one of a pair of plenums. To my recollection the ITB approach has been most widely applied by BMW in their recent NA cars such as the E39 M5, E46 M3, E90/2 M3 and E60 M5 as examples. The LFA also uses ITBs.

Other engines renowned for both their throttle response and ability to pile on the revs at the top end - such as the engines fitted to Porsche's GT3 911s - don't use ITBs and they're surely none-the-worse for this fact. So, as to the ultimate efficacy of independent throttle bodies - it's not all that clear but we do know that cars like the E92 M3 for instance are an absolute delight to drive in terms of throttle response.

^I suppose there's many ways to skin a cat, as long as the outcome is the same does it really matter how it's achieved.

Seems like it. If lightening quick engine response can be achieved in a way that minimize the number of moving parts in an engine then so be it. A well design manifold that optimize airflow as well as an exhaust manifold that creates a wonderful vacuum that drags fresh air into the cylinders can negate the need for ITBs.

^Agreed I think too much is made of something either having or lacking a certain kind of technology instead of actually looking how it effect the actual performance. As Martin said in this particular instance BMW and Lexus have chosen to run with ITBs whilst many others chose not to but the end resulting performance seems to show no clear winner either way.

The grand poobah of all GT3s - GT3 RSR actually uses ITBs. I think Ferrari also uses it some of their race engines. But yea there are definitely some awesome NA engines that don't use them.

Thanks - I did not know that. Very interesting then that the daddy of all GT3s sees fit to make use of ITBs. Must be a reason regarding flow rate for top end power.

Not to go too OT, but here is a pic of Ferrari F1 V10 bearing some ITB porn -

I'm sitting here flipping a coin as to whether I would continue with the RS4 order or swap it for the SQ5. This image has made this decision a hell of a lot harder.

I´d take mine without the chrome accents.

I thought you already ordered the RS4?

I think you have to wait much longer for the Q5S.
And I would surely take the RS4 over the Q5S. As much as I love the Q5, it has to be an RS for me to choose it over a legendary ikon as the Rs4.

^Deposit is paid but transferable if I prefer something else, I would probably hold off until Jan/Feb before changing so chances are the SQ5 will be available by then, the latest I have heard is that Audi are wanting it to show as close to the facelift as possible. I don't actually mind which I drive as I'll only be keeping it a year but if it were longer I think the RS4 would excite me and keep me interested the longer.

The B8 RS4 looks stunning.

P.S. Keep the RS4 order, Deckhook.

The deposit will lay there until I see the SQ5 details, at the moment I have a chance of buying back my S4 Avant that I had 18/20 months ago from a friend I sold it to, this would be a great replacement for the wife's GTI since it's still in mint condition and has only got 17000miles on the clock plus the A3SB won't be available till Spring next year and the Mk7 GTI even later. If this comes off the SQ5 would make a nicer alternative to an S4 than the RS4 and allow me to drive something difference from time to time.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
