R8 [Official] 2013 Audi R8 Facelift

^ That's for the manual - how much more do the S-tronic gearbox-equipped models weigh? The 458 is penalised in its weight stakes by the heavy dual-clutch transmission.

The weights for the facelifted R8 to EU1 standard are as follows:

V8 4.2 FSI quattro
Manual 1,635kg (263hp/tonne)
S tronic 1,660kg (259hp/tonne)

V10 5.2 FSI quattro
Manual 1,695kg (310hp/tonne)
S tronic 1,720kg (305hp/tonne)

V10 5.2 FSI quattro plus
Manual 1,645kg (334hp/tonne)
S tronic 1,670kg (329hp/tonne)

And for comparison, the 2011 R8 GT.....

R-tronic 1,600kg (350hp/tonne)

Awesome car, but when did 1570kg become "ultra-lightweight" for a 2 seater sports car?

Hahaha, utter madness. The R8 is actually quite porky

Also, this car is looking damn dated suddenly. The facelift didn't help at all.

but its weight is still exactly where it should be in relation to its rivals when you take it's AWD into account.

Yeah, sure
AWD might weigh 50 kg max. Probably less. The R8 is a pork. Only 2 seats, no boot to speak of and still 1700 kg.

I'm not claiming to be and I sure as hell wouldn't be making a swiping statement of how much any AWD system happens to be, so no harm to you Martin but I contribute far more than Klier ever will.

In defense of klier's porky comment.........

New Porsche 911 4S curb weights for comparison:

Manual 1,445kg
PDK 1,465kg

Bigger and heavier engines in the R8 no doubt but that's quite a difference comparing an in-class car.

New Porsche 911 4S curb weights for comparison:

PDK 1,465kg

Audi R8 V10 Plus weight is 1570 kg.

And Audi R8 GT weight is 1525 kg.

Now we have to wait the new Audi R8 GT, its going to be difinitely lighter and powerful than older the R8 GT. And its comes end of 2013.

You're not comparing like for like.

The Porsche weights do not include driver and fuel and liquids. To the same EU standard as the R8 V8, the 911 4S is 1,520kg. So, the R8 V8 is 115kg heavier than the 911. Not great, but not terrible when you consider the 911 is a brand new car with only a few months on the market, where as the R8 was launched in 2006, six years ago. I'm sure the replacement R8 will see a weight reduction of around 100kg. The latest A3 saw a weight reduction of around 85kg.

+1 Betty, the R8's weight is on par with similar sized and engine capacity rivals. That is when it's AWD system is taken into account.

Without AWD an R8 almost as heavy as a 458 Italia, and about 80 kg heavier than and MP4-12C. So it is not bad. If it really were bad, and it really is, that is the case of almost ALL sportscars today, even the Toyota GT86. Porsche just did a good job on the new 981 and 991, and all carmakers are likely to improve in the coming years, unless hybrid tech will add on.

Okay, so it's time for me to rant. Apparently everything that is older than 6 months is now considered either 'dated', or 'old'. Jesus. I remember a time when a car that was five years old was not even considered 'old'. And now, everything thats older than 6 months -from cars, to computer and phones - are 'old'. I don't care how the times change. Does anyone agree? It's a little bit ridiculous. People can't hold onto anything.

True, but people are so used to consumerism and to 'innovation' that after little time everything gets 'old/outdated'. We can't change that.

We can't change that innovation is always on the go (that's a positive I suppose) but we can change our outlooks. Appreciate things that aren't brand, brand new? Know what I'm saying. By today's reasoning, the Zonda is a pretty 'old' car but it's no less freaking amazing because of that. That's my point - I reckon using the word 'outdated' is usually implied with negativity in mind. I dunno. I digress.

Here is testdrive for the Audi R8 Plus, by Autoweek. Nice.

And what I can say about this car, what we can expect to come end of 2013. The Audi R8 GT/GT3.

It has a rollcage, same as what the R8 GT has. But it doesn't have same facelift what the new R8 has, but that's why because its only a testmule.

Ohh yeahh ;)

The official 0-200 kph time of the R8 Plus is 11,3 s.

In comparison with other factory claims:
10,2 s - Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Trofeo
10,4 s - Ferrari 458 Italia
10,8 s - Porsche 911 Turbo S
10,8 s - Audi R8 GT
11,3 s - Audi R8 V10 Plus
12,6 s - BMW M6 F13

We'll see better 0-200 kph times from this car IMO.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
