Bashing BMW? Just read my IMHO

Every car maker out there has the right to and do try at least create their own sometimes new niche's, crossovers, segments etc. Cars like the CLS was supposed to be a "4 Door Coupe" albeit many will disagree that such a term has any relevance or that it exists. Even today (IMO) the latest CLS is a heavy-ass, lump of a disaster of a....how did DocM phrased it..Butchered design compared to the awesome sleek and tight design that was the 1st Generation CLS. Ok, enough about the CLS's looks (apologies its off-topic) and my opinion.

BMW has the full right to do as any other manufacturer does and so may as well call their X-range of automobiles Sprts ACTIVITY vehicles. And before PORSCHE (who strayed way, way, waaaaay beyond their "brand bible" and ethics + ok, BMW does it also, I agree ) with the VAG-platform based Cayenne by copying BMW-SAV at the core. The core? Yes, fact is before Cayenne, there was only factually ONE "SAV" with the total height and breadth also ground clearance that was again factually, handling and driving like a proper BMW product (1st) and better that most sedans its size in the E53 (2nd).

So lets criticize, no problem. BUT lets try some constructive criticism for a change, shall we!? Time this forum gets up to it's normal, civilized-professional culture again, I think!? @Betty Swollocks & @klier will tell it short: Stop Trolling

Mmmm...ja. I could have just gone and puke on a thread or go with a few gripes and niggles I have with the not-to-perfection W222 S-class. But why? Why go and nitpick at small stuff, whilst the bigger picture show a techno-marvel of German engineering and progress!?

Why go derail something good and at that offend great contributing members and GCF contributors who ads constructive essence to what is a Forum for just that. There are many car forums on the net, yet none IMHO who has the essential contribution we have amongst (but a few) good and excellent people from around the world right here.

But I guess it takes time to grow up and into the rhytm of civilized (GCF standard) - type forums. I remember back when i joined...I was not aware of the professional way of GCF, was put in my place fast, learnt quick and whilst I can get "emotional" still sometimes, no need to get childish or just plain annoying.

I never thought of it, neither do I no anything about the ignore option. But I will have to learn to use it ASAP.

BMW deserves the right to call the X5 the first Sports Activity Vehicle because the X5 broke the ground that dynamics and road holding would be preferred rather than outright off road driving.
The E53 broke the mold because of its closer to the road architecture and road car dynamic handling. It was the first of its kind to be based on an actual car platform and led the path for others to follow the same formula.
The new X5 (E53) in 1999 was testament to the genius of BMW R&D chief Wolfgang Reitzle and his " build it and they well sell philosophy"
And sell they did. I remember back in 1999 how in demand the X5 was at launch that in Germany and other countries such as the UK and US amongst others had customers waiting a year for their cars.

The E53 serves in BMWs history as one of the brands most successful launches.
