i second that!
when i open my computer, i preffer to see a bimmer, a Volvo, or something like that. VW, is a great brand, but it is not suitable for wallpapers!


PS, i don't like supercars on my desktop, too!

I would never imagine myself as a Volvo owner but on the other hand i would like to own a Touareg or even a Golf (as a second car) so it all comes down to personal preferences.

New Passat is a really nice car, haven't driven it yet, but taking into consideration the many reviews i've read, this car was expected to be something more than what it is, something on par w/ a 3er(dont know if VW will ever get that close, maybe Audi). The 3.8 liter sounds like a nice package, and would be the Passat I'd buy if I were to buy one.

To be on par on the 3er, much more money has to be spent, and then the base price will increase... Is it not that most people are complaining the VW are pricing their cars too high? VW has to design a car according to its price bracket, and I think it has done well in that regard. I mean, if you have more money, then of course go for the 3er.

On the other hand I think VW has a problem with its product development. I don't understand how a Golf or a Passat can command such a premium above its Japanese counterparts when the quality and finishing of their cars are on par or even worse off than the Japanese. It's probably due to high wages in Germany and inefficient economies of scale.

I think German cars probably have a higher cost of production than Japanese ones. German cars seem to be built tougher than Japanese ones as well. It's true that they are not always as reliable, though. It's weird because German cars used to be some of the most reliable around. Just look at those old Mercedes that run for decades without much problem (forgot which ones, I think they use a lot for taxis in the Middle East).

Japenese cars are built to a very high std., I think it's the design that gives a somewhat different impression. I dont know what can be done to lower the costs of production, but something needs to give.. soon... in one way or another, because things are only going to get worse for the German auto industry.

They are trying. I know some of the marques have factories in Eastern Europe probably for this reason along with examples like MB building the M class in the USA which probably doesn't save as much on salaries/benefits as much as it does on transportation costs since most of them are sold here anyway. The Euro is still pretty strong against the dollar, though, so the salary differences could still be beneficial.

Haha, well you have to do your research then. I know that many people complained a lot about issues with the last ML which was made over here instead of in Germany (or at least the majority of them I believe). My last (and only) car was built in a plant in Hungary and sent away for engine installation (I think that's what they did), and it was great. Any problem had nothing to do with the assembly of the components except for a broken glove compartment mechanism.
