A8/S8 Next Generation Audi A8 (D4) Spy pics & info.

Isn't this car passed the test mule phase already? cos if I'm not mistaken there were pics of actual prototypes doing testing.

Audi's test mules are so clever, you really have to look twice to see there's something fishy about that A8. But because of this, there is no hype or buzz surrounding the new A8. The W221 and F01 development cylce was a circus on forums all over the web.
I have this feeling suddenly *BOOM* we have the new A8 presented. Won't be too long now.

Yep, you're right on the money. Audi/VW just like Centurion said in another thread, they don't show you anything until the car is ready and then it appears....looking nothing like the spy shots we see now. I kinda like that because unlike Mercedes/BMW/Porsche there is no endless, years-long parade of spy pics.

That's not exactly true, look at how long it took for the RS4 and now the RS5.

At least they put MMI in the correct position. In those chops from before, where it was up on the dash, it was very un-Audi.

This scoop shot clearly shows hi-tech cameras, fitted where fog lights would be, that help this A8 to steer itself.

At the same time, if a rock or debris were to hit it, it would completely destroy the camera. Not the best position IMO, but I'm probably wrong. :t-cheers:

Next-Generation Audi A8 Details Mentioned in Stadler Speech

Audi AG Chairman Rupert Stadler gave his speech at the 2009 Annual Press Conference yesterday and, as is becoming a custom, shared details on upcoming models we'll see this year. Much of this focused on the next-generation A8, shown above in a drawing released months ago from Audi AG's design department.

Of the A8, Stadler said:

"We will also be presenting the next-generation Audi A8 and rest assured, Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s going to be a sensation. The A8 remains Audi’s flagship: it embodies our understanding of the word “premium”. Particularly in turbulent waters such as these, it will broadcast a very clear message, further define the Audi brand's identity, and embody – more so than any other model – our brand values: “sporty, progressive and sophisticated”.

The A8 will be the sportiest luxury sedan in its class – and set new standards with regard to interiors. Its precision and build quality are second to none. This model naturally means a great deal to us, because it played a greater role than any other car in the rise of the Audi brand. And we will unveil it to the world in a remarkable fashion in late November." :t-cheers:

^gunning for the 7er..
lol the reign as sporty king of the large cars was very short lived for the 7er;)

Those are some very powerful statements, especially when cars like the F01, w221 facelift and Panamera are around. Let alone the new XJ that's around the corner

That's not exactly true, look at how long it took for the RS4 and now the RS5.

True, but those were versions of an existing car. Its the totally new design that we usually don't see much of.

I can't wait to see a comparo of the 3 german uber sedans. I just hope that Audi makes the A8 a lot less boring.

Maybe because BMW (X1, 5 series) and Mercedes, (E-Cabrio, E-Estate, SLS) are showing so many new models that Audi doesn't want its debuts to be lost in the sea of other debuts. Debuting at, say a private event in Germany is smart because there will be a lot of hype surrounding it, being that there is almost no car debuts after a major auto show. Audi probably wants to have the A8 debut without any other carmakers stealing the light from its flagship.

I would say that sounds reasonable because Frankfurt is going to be a Mercedes-Benz vs BMW heavyweight, championship, pier 6 brawl.

Either that or they don't want the spotlight taken away from the A8 by another Audi debut at Frankfurt....RS5 or something else.

I believe he was referring to the new one.

Yeah, like the head of AUDI will admit anything other than that. The car does not yet out, so to say "it's second to none" is non sense. That's why I said that he might want to re-think that statement because even if they have pulled apart the current W211, I highly doubt they have their hands on the FL W211. :t-cheers:

I hope they make it a little more aggressive....

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
