E-Class Next E-class on a Severe Diet

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
Although Magazine Articles mean very little to me, one area (the only area, really) that they concentrate on with a fine-toothed comb is "sportiness" (which is why I think they aren't worth paying attention to in so many other cases), which is why BMW's have always almost sometimes questionably won every "Test" in most Mags. About every Mag test has touted the equal A6 as being sportier and more performance oriented than the F10. Be it in straight line, handling, or "road feel". I don't think the Audi's ride has what it takes to be the best in the Mid-Size Luxury Sedan bunch, because as "Luxury" Sedans, you need a luxurious ride, which the A6 comes in last. However, in terms of pure sport, I don't think the F10 has anything over the A6. The Supercharged 6 in the A6 is even a stronger motor than the F10's 3.0TT, it feels more powerful, smoother, and there's no lag or "tip-in" throttle, just instantaneous power.

Translated from German to English:

Mercedes, the E-class on a diet. The E Superlight brings only 1300 kilos - 350 pounds less than the current E-class, because it uses super-light carbon fiber, which is harder than steel. As drive electric motor with a fuel cell, a new six-cylinder gasoline engine and a hybrid module are possible.

What the heck is that? The coupe or something?. It doesn´t look like an E-Class.

Isn't it supposed to be the all-carbon Superlight version of the next generation of the E-Class? ;)
There also should be the normal steel based E-Class as I understand it.

An W212 E200, the lightest model, weighs 1615 kg. The E Superlight only 1300 kg. Hard to believe. ;)

Holy yuck. Reminds me of a futuristic attempt from the 70's.

Two E-Classes in 2017? Is that even near possible? An "E-Class", then an "E-Class Superlight", with completely different designs? Sounds odd.

Why not make the regular E-class superlight, or at least much lighter? Why would you make two different E-classes? I find it a bit strange, doesn't make sense.

I find myself rather liking this.

A more cohesive evolution of the current CLS' design language applied to the somewhat more traditional 4 door sedan configuration. And if one really squints, certain 300SL Gullwing cues can be detected. The design "flows" very well but features some accentuations that have the quality of arresting the eye. And this prevents the design from appearing "anonymous".

As the renderings featured in Autobild are often relatively accurate (as compared to AMuS or Autozeitung), perhaps optimism regarding M-Bs' future design direction is warranted.

Looks like Mercedes-Benz are getting ready to take on the BMW i5. i5 is a futuristic sports sedan but with a sustainable drivetrain.
Although every focus is currently on the infrastructure to bring the i3 and i8 to reality. In the background there is a conception team in the process of the i5. There is no doubt that it is an i, sharing the same design language and in the case of the i8 the drivetrain. Although you may see an i5 Concept car within the next couple of years - The production car will not appear to nearer the end of this decade 2016 or 2017.

Interesting really..the headlights looks more of an Audi though..

That car has sliding rear doors right?

That render must be completely far fetched. It looks preposterous. Makes even their messiest current offerings look elegant.

That design is too derivative of current themes. I doubt it will come to fruition. I also do not see how it is hinted that there will be a regular E and a Superlight E with distinct designs. Also, about the E getting closer in design to the CLS, that would make sense only if CLS ceased to exist or moved upmarket.
