E-Class (W213/C238/A238) Next E-class on a Severe Diet

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
So, MB is ditching the angular design for the next E, in favour of a more organic one?

Also, is it me, or this horizontal chrome line above the taillights doesn't work in sedans?

It has been used on American sedans in the 1960-1970. Mercedes is pointing their new designs in an art deco direction which was hinted ay by the Ocean Drive. Cadillac should be weeping in a corner because Mercedes are bringing to reality lots of shapes and ideas that Cadillac has put forward in Concepts the past years but never successfully translated into production cars.

I would rather see a more modest accent line (like this) on the E-class than the exagerated dropping line that is on the C and S.
This sketch is the luxury, so I must say I like much more than the current luxury E. The new S and C class do not need the sport package to make the car attractive, and the current E-class does. The back lights will take some getting used to as they are a complete departure from the current tail lamps.

Interesting that they show all 3 with relatively angular front aprons, converse to where MB and BMW are currently at.

I just hope the E-Class front would not look like the render as what we see so far, not my liking.

The tail lights aren't as unfamiliar as you think. They are a sleeker evolution of what you see on the W212, but overall they are a big departure from the style that we've been accustomed to the past 10-15 year. Mercedes are leaving behind the "sandwich" style graphics with white in the middle and red at the top and bottom.

Why still no spy shot of the new e class? The 5 series is already out testing
I am just guessing here but after the extensive face lift of the current generation, MB might be thinking of lengthening the life span of the W212?

I imagine that'd be quite a risk as the E is such a significant earner for M-B's bottom-line. Also the way they been so competitive with their recent offerings (the new S, C, A, etc.) I would think they wouldn't let off the gas pedal and keep that momentum going.

Yeah I doubt it. It's probably undergoing a more disguised development or being more heavily reliant on computer development. I think the maximum delay we will see is the car coming out around the same time as the 5 series.

E class usually launches a year before the new 5 and around the same timing as the 7 series

Should be larger and more aerodynamic

New details are starting to emerge about the 2016 Mercedes E-Class.

According to Autobild, the redesigned model will be sportier and have more aerodynamic styling. It is also slated to ride on the company's new rear-drive architecture and feature a longer wheelbase than the current model.

Five different body styles are expected and they will likely include a sedan, a long-wheelbase sedan, a wagon, a coupe and a convertible.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but rumors suggest the car will be offered with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six that has outputs of approximately 367 HP (270 kW) and 435 HP (320 kW). There could also be a new 2.9-liter diesel engine that develops about 313 HP (230 kW) and 400 HP (294 kW). We can also expect hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The latter could be offered with two-liter petrol and diesel engines that are backed up by an electric motor that produces approximately 122 HP (90 kW).

I guess we can expect spy pics to show before the end of this year. Can't wait.

I think I want those engines more than I want the car. Can you imagine a C-Class Sport with a 367hp I6? I guess the 435hp version replaces the V8?

One should think so.

However, it makes me wonder about that 2.9L - a bit weird capacity, don't you think? It makes more sense they will have 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 liter capacity (V12 excluded).
Also, one other site mentioned 1.9L diesel. Hmmm...

I don't know enough about engine displacement and what they mean to know honestly. It sounds odd, but there have been 4.9L. V8s and what not from others.

Are these info accurate?

Of course not, until they are proven to be true, they are just rumors.

Agreed, would be rather strange, keeping in mind the future engineconcept of 500 ccm per cylinder. However, there once existed a (W210) E 290 turbodiesel
