E-Class (W213/C238/A238) Next E-class on a Severe Diet

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
Those rear lights might have some of this DNA? :)

Lots of new Benzes seem to have F800-inspired tail lights (the S Coupe comes immediately to mind. C Class T Model as well). It would be the only right thing for the next E Class to fully adopt them:). Now, about that front...

Yes, but Auto bild is usually pretty spot on with their scoops.

By the way, the next E Class will lose the Auto bild head-to-head comparison against the next Audi A6 because Auto bild says so.
Well, you know Autobild is extremely pro Mercedes-Benz...... alsways has been ;-)

Clearly that is C-Class based. Next.

Remember this?

Some people claimed it was just based on a CLS press pic, which was true, and therefore dismissed it. As everyone can see this is 95% what we end up having. And this came ou at the end of 2010.

I wouldn't agree with that, it looks a mess and the details are downright awful. I mean the general shape is the same, but no where near 95% IMO.

what is more interesting is that we have not seen any spy shots of the prototypes of the new E yet. BMW is already testing the new 5 and considering the present 5 was presented after the present E Mercedes may keep producing the facelifted model for a little longer because of the costs of the facelift and because it was not a mere facelift.

Mercedes is also doing a lot of computer based development these days, which may explain why no test vehicles have been seen.

With Mercedes back in form and BMW wanting to maintain the 5's sale lead, I'm sure this is going to be a contest like never before.

I hope they keep the dropping line. The S-Class, C-Class and specially S-Coupe have proved it can be done with taste, and it differentiates MB way more than the same straight line across the side profile with the door handles incorporated that we have seen for so many years.

Anyone got more inside detail of Autobild of the E-Class render? The pix show is from the cover only.

Rendering – 2016 Mercedes E Class shows evolutionary design changes

The 2016 Mercedes E Class has been rendered by German magazine Auto Bild. The luxury sedan gets a design language which is closer to the S Class Coupe that will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Fresh renderings of the E Class suggest that the car gets a design that is quite evolutionary. While the facelift for the current E Class got pods at the front that looked like an extension of the front body, the renderings show clear distinction.

As for the rear, the major changes are on the taillights that now duck under the rear chrome belt, reduced in size.

The new E Class will be built on the MRA (Mercedes Rear wheel Architecture) which underpins the new C Class. And like in the C Class, Mercedes’ engineers are expected to adopt a hybrid aluminium construction for the car’s chassis, making it at least 100 kg lighter than the car now.

Codenamed W213, the new E Class could be one of the first recipients of the return of Mercedes’ straight-6 engines. The engines are part of a new modular powertrain architecture that will also spawn three and four-cylinder units.

The 2016 E Class is expected to be launched towards the end of 2015.

2015 would be too early for the E. I suspect it will be in middle of 2016.

While I like the direction of the rear, the front end is not differentiated enough from the C and S.

That is nothing but a C-Class, why do they even bother? I would expect the next E to be presented at Geneva 2016 or Paris 2016. Mercedes might even take an extra year to get everything right. If the rumors are true, they're introducing a totally new car AND new engines at the same time. Mercedes doesn't usually do that. I can't wait to see the top of the line I6, if such an engine exists.

I suspect if the E is to debut with the new engines, then the engines will in fact be rolled out earlier in lower volumes in another model series. No way Mercedes is going to launch a new E with new engines as well. That's just asking for trouble. And they know they have to get this E just right.

I agree, it seems like a lot to do. They may just roll them out at the same time as the facelift for the C-Class or S-Class, if those are launching the same year. I've seen them do it before. Huge gamble.

So, MB is ditching the angular design for the next E, in favour of a more organic one?

Also, is it me, or this horizontal chrome line above the taillights doesn't work in sedans?

Hmmm, I like it, even in this render.

The only thing that I wouldn't like is if they make the E overly elegant. I like the 5 spoke rims (taken from the S), they will suit this car perfect.
