My new Audi RS5

Sorry, taking a long time to run it in so no real news. Been travelling a lot and that has not helped.

However, had a "first" the other day. Rear fin popped out at 120km. hehehe I am such a ham...:)

Yeah, maybe ;)

But then again, we all are - that's why we're here. It's because we've got this common appreciation (bordering on unhealthy obsession more like it) for cars and that's why we like hams like you.

:)

Love that ride of yours - I am just a tad envious. Have you stonked it yet?

No not yet. Have not run her in yet despite taking the longest route home and offering to send anyone anywhere! Only at 700km!!:t-banghea

OK...have not run the car in yet but still got busted for speeding this morning....:( Wonder if the tail fin gave me away.

Musings on the gear...

Dynamic is suppose to be the one which is the most fun. Sound of the exhaust is better. Get the blips when upshifting or downshifting etc. However, it is almost impossible to drive it in full auto (ie let it change itself rather than I press the flappy paddle) in town. For a start, in the carpark, great sound. But going down say a three stoey carpark and the speed you are in? The car stays in gear 1. Get on the road, with all the traffic, max maybe you get to 70 km/h. The car stays in gear 2. You might change it manually to 3 and 4 but the minute it detects any slow down, it flips down again. So what you have is a ca which feels like it is in the wrong gear all the time.

For Auto, and I don't have a heavy foot, so most likely I am in Comfort, the gears change very very smoothly and very quickly. You could be in gear 5 at 70km/h and the car is humming and running.

I couldn't imagine ever driving an RS5 in full auto would seem wierd having a DSG and not taking advantage of it. Some interesting tid bits on your part keep em coming you have no idea how much I envy you right now.

Haha thanks.

It is tough to drive using the full gears in traffic. I did try several times. Just too much traffic and short of zig zagging in and out of traffic, it just doesn't seem worth it. You are just frustrating yourself and wearing brake pads and buring fuel.

You almost need to live outside the city, have a expressway drive in...a clear expressway that is...for you to really use the gears and drive at a reasonable speed.

Then again, that is the beauty of this car. It is totally practical. Rear seats, big boot. Just switch to auto and drive very comfortably in the city. Do the normal stuff in life. Go pick up someone at the airport. Lots of boot space. Then when the opportunity shows up, step on it.

Example last night. On the expressway, I was behind a Airwave (somehow they are always the ones in my way) who would not move over. I wasn't pushing mind you. However, behind me a C-Class who was pushing. I had half a mind to let him through as I would have been really upset if he rear ended me. Then suddenly, the Airwave pulled over to let me go. I just stepped on it. Speed sensor went off, sound of tail fin popping up......I looked in the mirror and the lights of the C-Class were in the distance!! You know the expression "he looked like he was standing still". Totally applicable here! I had pulled away so quickly. Boy, he did not expect that I think. Even I was impressed haha

This car seems most economical fuel wise at about 100 km/h. Looking at the readings, using full auto, because of how quick the gears change, I get a better Litre/100km than the S5!!

Im jealous!! :D

Haha no regrets at all with this buy now after three weeks..

Just managed to run her in so will be heading north soon to open her up. Look forward to that.

Still finding out little things about her. Like the fan keeps running after the car is switched off. No idea why I am excited by this but am. Like a "real" sports car:D

BTW, a friend's girlfriend who has no interest in cars what so ever said this looks like a bull's head. I have to admit, I never noticed but..

Was heading home late the other night, was a cool evening so I had the windows down.

Had a clear road so decided to step on it. Somewhere at 110 km/h, the centre information panel went "beep" and said something along the lines of "fuel inefficiency. Drag. Please close windows".

Is this thing a little too smart or what? haha

Awesome. Better keep the keys on you, otherwise I think it'll do your kids' homework for them... :D

OK...discovered something new today regarding the dual clutch gears....driving at about 60km/h, heavy traffic...see a empty lane on the left if I can just shoot/squeeze past this guy...gun it...VROOM...rev counter goes up to...car does not move!! Slight pause and then shoots forward. Hmmm....odd...

Lets try again on empty road in front of me...drop speed...gun it....VROOM..rev counter up...pause again...then shoots forward...

Anyone else with a car with these gears experience this?
