Mum's new C250

Too much annoying issues with new BMWs.. much more than ive heard with Giulia despite being in it's first year of production.

Excuse my ignorance, but is 72k miles considered a long for a modern BMW V8, or is it just about the car's market value?

I have over 125Kmiles on my X6 V8. Rebuilt the engine @110kmile when I had to replace the valve stem seals.
X5 V8 now has 75kmiles.

Australian price list is out for the new X3, no mention of the "40i" version.

xDrive20d – $68,900
xDrive30i – $75,900
xDrive30d – $83,900

When you said engine rebuilt you mean proper cylinder boring, plus oversize piston rings and new bearings everywhere?

Why did you have to change the valve stem seals?

So how does it compare with the Q5 and GLC? I mean, these prices mean very little to non AUS sheeple....

No.
I should not have said rebuilt- that was misleading.
Engine was stripped down and parts replaced: Injectors, turbo, water pump, radiators, plugs, transmission flushed, some sensors replaced. Cylinders were fine.
Valve stem seals were replaced because the engine started smoking- I mean really smoking some serious weed.

Oh here are the starting price for the new Q5 without any options

Q5 design 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic – $65,900
Q5 sport 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic – $70,700
Q5 sport TFSI quattro S tronic – $73,500

As for the Mercedes
GLC 220d $67,500.40
GLC 250 $69,338.50
GLC 250d $73,199.50

Fairly similar then, as expected. Engine lineup is fairly weak for all three over there though...

Yes...it is the case for Australian markets, weak engines combined with high prices.

While similarly priced in basic spec, the Mercedes is actually cheaper when adding options as they have very competitive packages. You can easily spend a small fortune on options in the Audi. The BMW seems half way between the two from the spec guide I have reviewed.

For example, a fully loaded GLC43 will set you back about $113K, in base spec it's just over $100K, while a fully loaded SQ5 will set you back in excess of $120K. In base spec the SQ5 is about $99K.

I'm hoping BMW Australia announces pricing of the X3 M40i by December this year. They'll probably release it about 6 months after the November 11th launch of the rest of the range as a second wind.

MB has just launched the GLC350d. It doesn't show up on most magazine price lists yet but is about $89K if I recall correctly. The X3 30d is also quite impressive doing 0-100 in 5.8 seconds compared to 5.4 seconds for the SQ5 which is supposed to be the performance variant.

Excuse my ignorance, but is 72k miles considered a long for a modern BMW V8, or is it just about the car's market value?

A bit of both; and the fact that I enjoy driving it.

Current BMWs are so molded around typical new vehicle leases/warranty terms (3yr/36000mi) or the standard (4yr/50,000mi), that any BMWs with higher mileage is eye-brow raising. Often times problems start appear after 40-50k miles.

There's also a tendency for leasees to stop regularly servicing when their lease term is about to end.

When people at BMW service find out I bought my 650i new from the dealership, they look at me like I have 2 heads. I guess they have reason; it's something I won't be doing again.
