Mercedes Vision EQXX

I don’t think It can be the next EQS since the dimensions suggest it’s a smaller car than the C-Class
I read somewhere that a Mercedes spokesman said that the EQXX is at least “one size smaller” than the EQE. Previewing the next EQC sedan?

MMA platform is for C-class and below, so makes sense they’d be showing some future tech on this car. But again this concept isn’t previewing an actual production car.

Looks like a Taycan with an extra 20 inches of rear end to me. I know the rear end is crucial to the economy but it is an eye sore. Not to mention a real issue in a rear end collision with all that one piece tail light.

That said I like what I see. Underwhelmed of course but at least it gives hope to the expectation the one bow design is not the only path for Mercedes EVs going forward.

I absolutely love it!
900 Volt promise quick charging, the aerodynamics and rather low weight (finally) promise long range. The latter being a condition sine qua non for me.
If it were a production car, I think I would want one.

It's a mass deception, that the higher Voltage gives faster charging. You charge cells that work at 4V. The voltage that comes to them when charging is just a bit higher (5V or something). Higher voltage allows for thinner charging cable. But it also has disadvantages. You need bigger isolation, because the potential for sparks is bigger.

The tech is impressive but it has to translate into a good looking production vehicle and work as advertised, live up to the promise/hype. Do that and Mercedes is fully stable and truly in the EV business. Their future will be secure. Hopefully when all the spending on EVs becomes more normal and manageable and there are no ICE models to worry about we can get back to some quality cars that don’t all look alike with cheap interiors. Maybe.

What is impressive about this concept compared to other Mercedes concepts of recent times is that they have shown a fully functioning car with all mechanicals (mmm electrics) and what looks like an almost production ready body and interior. This car has the potential to become a production car and I am sure Mercedes will use its power train in future models as well as the interior design.

They have used novel engineering and design techniques to reduce weight with the Bionexx castings and 3D printed items. Wow it weighs a massive 500kg less than an EQE and 700kg less than an EQS. It even weighs the same as ICE powered C-class models and is virtually the length of an E-class.

I hope Mercedes will use these Bionic casting designs for future production models to lose weight. The castings are intriguing in their design will also help to reduce unnecessary material usage.

Why is everybody so impressed with cadtings in a concept, which is a single unit? We have it today in mass produced Teslas, we have the base Tesla Model 3 at less than 1700 kg, but when Daimler makes it in a concept, where there are no limitations, it's the second coming. This just shws how underdeveloped they are in the field of EVs.

Yea, besides the aero, I fail to see how any of the specs released so far is impressive for a concept car that might in some form become reality in few years.

Current Tesla Model S Plaid battery pack already weighs ~530kg vs 495 kg for EQXX but is capable of putting out 760kw vs 150kw for the EQXX. As for 900v, Lucid already uses 900v architecture in a production car. This car seems to be RWD only. A RWD Model 3, a family sedan that is been in production for 5 years now, only weighs < 1700kg.

Both M-B design chief Gorden Wagener and technology chief Markus Schäfer are indicating that many of the EQXX features can be translated into a serial production offering by 2024. And as this cars' exterior dimensions will be situated in the general vicinty of the current W206 C-Class, it could conceivably act as a design template for future larger M-B.EA/AMG.EA low ride height automobiles. Imagining the EQXX with a somewhat truncated tail presents something that actually does look "serial production viable". And it could represent a, for many, welcome departure from the visually odd EQE/EQS cars.

Thanks for the info. Do you have some scientific text for me, so I can self educate myself on this theme? Not too technical though, you're still dealing with a non-engineer ;)

Yeah looks like a taycan mixed with that concept they released a while ago.

interior is interesting, probably close to what we will see coming in lower end benzes in the future.

I like his design reviews. He get's it right quite frequently.
