Mercedes Vision EQXX

This just doesn't look bulky and bulbous enough to be a modern Mercedes.

Perhaps simply wishful thinking on my part that the blobular "One Bow" design theme is not chisled in stone as a pardigm for the next 6 or so years. Hopefully, M-B decision-makers will realize that there are far more elegant yet efficient solutions than what has been presented in the form of the EQS/EQE sedans.

Let's hope MB design isn't following the "Barbapapa principle" in which a rather blobular Barbapapa puts into the world all kind of blobular forms...

HAHAHA ! My younger brother and sister were crazy about Barbapapa when they were little kids back in the early 1970s'. Kinderstunde was "must see TV" for them in general. Back in the days of only rwo channels with weekday programming starting at 4 in the afternoon and ending at around 11:30 in the evening.

I was comparing the design of the EQXX to the 2015 IAA Concept and although the elongated rear has some initial resemblance the overall shape of these cars is very much different.

As can be seen in the profile the EQXX has more curve line running from the front to the boot, while the IAA Concept is straight from half of the bonnet through the rear door window and then makes curved lines to the boot.

I think the EQXX looks close to production ready as its glasshouse is not totally flush and has pronounced B-pillar as on other Mercedes production cars as well as chrome bead trim surrounds. The car also has rear view mirrors on the doors as well as door handles like the S-class and even has a number plate holder on both front and rear. Even the rear has a small bumper lower down judt above the diffuser and number plate holder.

Save that überlong rear overhang, the EQXX could easily pass as a serial production car. As mentioned previously, a dedicated electric CLA. And it could furnish a template for a somewhat larger electric CLS.

I hope this turns into a production vehicle, I would far rather have a BEV that can run for 1000km before recharging than a BEV that can do 0-100kph in 3 seconds or less.
Except that both things are conected. Only a big battery can give so much power for acceleration and the big battery also means bigger range. With EVs power and efficiency do not contradict each other. Tesla S Plaid with 1000 hp is more efficient than most of the sub 200 hp EVs.

Because a car can do 0-100 in 3 secs doesn't mean you have to. If you drive gently a EV will go way further. The record for Model S (old one) is 1100km and for Model 3 is 1000km. Which is sort of what Mercedes is forcing by putting a wimpy 150kw motor.

All these high range figures are for grandpa driving style. I drive 130-140 km/h in average and faster on autobahn, I only need 500 km range in winter time.

Before buying a Panamera TS Hybrid I really wanted to get an EV but there's no car that fit my needs, maybe Tesla if they have done a new design.

Also can say this vision is everything the EQS should have been. One of the designers said something about not accepting any compromise that resulted in a “shit looking” design. Clearly that person was not involved in the EQS.

Lots is riding on the EQXX, if only to see whether there is hope on a second generation EQ based car.
The EQXX has a puny back seat and basically not head room. Quite the opposite of the S.

Next AMG GT 4 Door I would say. At least in terms of exterior design.

With a somewhat larger footprint based on the upcoming AMG.EA powertrain. Potentially, it could become the hyper-power 4 door GT.

But...will we actually ever see it ?

But...will we actually ever see it ?

AMG.EA will serve as the basis for the electric successors to the cars currently built on AMG-specific platforms – the GT and GT 4-door. As it does today, AMG will also produce Mercedes-based models in the electric age. “Both pasts will be put into the future,” is the way Hermann puts it. “And the AMG.EA will definitely be for the path for future full AMG cars only.”

Let´s say.... yes.

Also here is thing: If AMG.EA can spawn 4 door vehicles, then we might even see an AMG SUV in the future.

As far as I know, even Tobias Moers alluded 2 years ago at the possibily of an standalone AMG model based on a BEV platform.

My gut feeling says yes. This shape is returning for a production model. CLS indeed sounds perfect.

Because a car can do 0-100 in 3 secs doesn't mean you have to.

Lets face it, those crazy 0-100 times for Teslas is mostly because Elon Musk is a non car guy and thinks that's the only thing that matters.
You won't believe it, but I think sub 3 sec 0-100 times in a car like a Model S is idiotic. And frankly dangerous with all those soccer moms in them.

I much prefer the EQXX way. And Tesla should bring some concepts or something to show their vision of the future, because it's getting a bit stale over there. People are over insane 0-100 times now.
