Mercedes Vision EQXX

The more closely I scrutinize the EQXX, the more potential I believe it possesses. Especially the driving footage segments present a very attractive automobile that leaves the EQE/EQS sedans, in terms of aesthetics, choking on its' dust.

Lots of cool stuff, but the question is, how much of this is gonna make it into a production vehicle. Is the battery so light only because it can supply just 200hp? If that's the case, then that would limit a lot in what sorts of applications they can use it. It's quite strange that they would pick only 200hp output for their concept when the world is full of 1000hp sedans. Will they be able to afford to make a CF casing for every battery? Probably not. Are they gonna use forged Mag wheels that cost £10k+ per set? Probably not. Are they gonna use super thin eco wheels on a such a heavy car? Probably not. Will they be able to use such a small mirrors? Definitely not. As a result, whatever production car MB come up with, is likely not gonna weigh 1750kg, will not have 0.17Cd and will not have 1000km range (which is not 1000km anyway if it's the WLTP cycle they are using).

On the plus side, the design language is definitely better than on the EQS/EQE... even if I wouldn't exactly call this car beautiful.

Looks like a sedan version of the Kia EV6 and I don’t know if that’s a good thing for a Mercedes lol. Don’t get me wrong though, I think EV6 looks wonderful but when it comes to Mercedes you expect something more, not this weird looking concept.

I hate it, many design elements from other cars, Taycan + EV6 + ID4 = another EQShit

If they follow the same recipe of Vision EQS the production model of this will be awful.

Haha love it! Never before seen efficiency improvements in the new EQXX! Achieved through giving the driver and passengers pedals to recharge the battery while driving. The consumption is only a couple of currywursts per 100 km ?
As is, like those solar cars for one person. It's like that VW that did 100km per liter or that GM EV1 I think it was called. Basically an exercise in aerodynamics, as rare as those old examples. Just as it is smaller than the Mercedes concept of a few years ago, in terms of design it does not move me a hair.

Not even a pubic ??

Both M-B design chief Gorden Wagener and technology chief Markus Schäfer are indicating that many of the EQXX features can be translated into a serial production offering by 2024. And as this cars' exterior dimensions will be situated in the general vicinty of the current W206 C-Class, it could conceivably act as a design template for future larger M-B.EA/AMG.EA low ride height automobiles. Imagining the EQXX with a somewhat truncated tail presents something that actually does look "serial production viable". And it could represent a, for many, welcome departure from the visually odd EQE/EQS cars.

I thought the S Class always debuted the new design language?

That has, most often, been the case. Perhaps that modus operandi will change regarding EQ models. Or maybe we'll all be stunned when AMG presents a larger electric 4 door luxury GT that presents more than a few EQXX design cues applied to a somewhat larger footprint. Who besides genuine inner-circle M-B insiders really knows what will be in store over the next 5-6 years ?

One can catch elements of "architectural inspiration" provided by the VAG J1 cars. Keeping that in mind, the exterior design of the EQXX is, while arguably "modern", hardly revolutionary. And most certainly not "unique" (the elongated tail was featured on several post-mid 1960s' Porsche sport prototype category "Langheck" racing cars).

Mercedes and other manufacturers have a long history of using this shape. The 1937 W125 Rekordwagen also had this shape.

As did the C111-III

Not to forget a number of automobiles from the Art Deco automotive design era:

...and somehow, the EQXX at least vaguely reminds me of...this:

Cut about 150mm from the rear and this would make a quite tasty electric CLA.

They'd never be bold enough to release such a sharp rear-end design. All sharp angles would need to be rounded out first. This just doesn't look bulky and bulbous enough to be a modern Mercedes.
