The original SLR Concept Car was better looking unfortunately they had to re-engineer and redesign the rear of the car to cope with the aerodynamics.

I think the SLR was more than the sum of it's parts unfortunately it was completely outclassed by the Enzo and Carerra GT that it re-focused on being the image maker for Mercedes-Benz and the mcLaren F1 team which they had become champions by the launch in 2003 presented by Kimi I think, so the car was a good congratulationary present.

I wonder who will launch the SLS @ Frankfurt - Mika , Lewis or Jenson - rumours point to Jenson and a more prominent partnership of Brawn-Mercedes.

Rumour is Sir Stirling Moss will have the honours of unveiling the SLS along with the AMG top brass. I think it is appropriate as it fits the retro image of the SLS. Also, AMG wants to let it be known the SLS is "their" car.

Jenson is too "new" as top athlete and would be an ineffective choice as he doesn't have the same star status as Mike, Sterling Moss or Mercedes's main choice -- Lewis Hamilton. Yes, Mclaren and Mercedes' relationship is still strong, here you have a photo of what Hamilton got to do roughly a week ago. So stop spreading your ungrounded Mercedes-loves-Brawn-and-Button rumours.

Further more I'll take this opportunity to vent my annoyance over your fascist and cynical instructions that BMW have given you. Every single posts published outside the BMW section have been distasteful and fully biased negative opinions on BMW competitors. Seriously, BMW CM need to be more inventive ways of using social media than trying to shed the brand in a brighter light by repetitively throwing childish remarks on an internet forum. So please, it you don't have anything else but negativity to add in non-BMW sections, then please refrain from posting.

^^ Give me a break Luw. Don't read his posts outside of the BMW section if you don't like his tone. There are MB boys who behave in the exact same way outside of the MB forum, but we have to live with that, since it will always be this way. 'Fascist instructions'? noooo.

Now, lets get back to the SLS. I think even visually it will blow the SLR awy. SRL is getting a bit old I would say. Time for a sporty technology change :eusa_danc

wow? what's with all these SLR failure posts all of a sudden? I for one loved it and still thinks its the most stunning MB ever made.

I wouldn't exactly call it a failure (as I said earlier) but I do think that it was nothing but a fast, heavy roadster. Hopefully the SLS will change my (and many's) perception of how well MB can build a sports car.

I agree with that.
The SLR is one stunning machine. But it should cost half its pricetag, then it would've been a wonderful thing. With that price, it faced the CGT and Zonda, later the LP 640 and even 599 GTB, and those were too much for it.

The SLR looks gorgeous, but it had negative influences on its aerodynamics. Its carbon structure is splendid, but all the heavy equipments rendered it useless. Its motor is powerful, but the slushbox (without double-declutching) and fact an E55 has the same was a true shame. Its suspensions lack composure, too.

I won't even comment on the fact it has a W168 A-Class steering.

The SLR is a stunning showcar, but IRL it's a real missed opportunity. It made the job to make people dream, but didn't impress many of the real enthusiasts...

Reading the SLS's resumee... Totally revamped N/A V8 vs slightly boosted Kompressor V8, dual-clutch gearbox vs almost standard slushbox without double-declutching function, front-middle transaxle with a carbon torque tube vs front-middle, 1620kg vs 1768kg...

And thanks to an alu instead of carbon spaceframe, half of the price...

I really hope the SLS will live up to the expectations unlike the SLR!!

Spot on! thank you!

uh oh, a touchy subject. Grow up people! We cant stop people from posting in threads. Maybe we should forbid MB fans to write in BMW section and vice verse as well.
Mercedes sucks and its hardly any news ;) stop being so bloody sensitive.

Where are the official pics? I thought they were due by now?

M

Didn't you get the memo Merc? The big German companies started teasing half a year ago. First Porsche with the Pana, then BMW with the X1 and now Mercedes with the SLS. It's a new trend to show official pics where you can only see parts of the car and not the whole picture, or only a new interior and not the exterior..

Still better than completely nothing and then *BANG*, official pics all over the net.

I agree with that.

Exactly! I really think that why the SLS will be so "cheap". I'm guessing $250k, which sounds much better to a Millionaire then a $400k price tag.

It would be interesting to see a Maybach version based on the "gullwing" doors concept of the SLS. Like they did with the SLR - Excelero. Then again I doubt MB will be willing to spend the money on a maybach like that.

I'm not sensitive, all I want is for the forum not evolve into BMWCarZone. Scott even has his own section. Every new BMW release hits the front page the minute its official, and further more the release video of the 7-Series was set on autoplay. Don't take this the wrong way, I hold no hard feelings or even criticism against NSL or the moderators . But I don't want to be greeted with daft BMW-propaganda in every other thread I enter. Obviously most BMW fans would argue that I'm whining, because realistically all Scott writes is poetry to their eyes, but us others have to be taken into consideration too.

Scott is very welcomed here but I just wish for the BMW propaganda to take a back seat a bit. After all, this isn't the M3-post or E46fanatics. GermanCarForum represents balance and I want that status to remain.

:t-cheers:

Post of the month!!!

Funny how BMW fans are ripping the SLR apart when BMW hasn't come up with anything, I mean anything close to it.

I'd take a heavy roadster over any SUV any day.

Another example of Benz boys having problem with the Bimmer boys and their opinions. Thank God for members like Merc and Coolraoul who can say something negative about a Benz. I fully agree with their opinion about SLR.

And yes I take a Roadster over a SUV any day as well.

I'm with you and I don't want this to be another forum either.

I don't own this board but Scott is a member like any (although he has his own section) of us which mean he is entitled to say whatever he wants. He isnt attacking any member and he isn't calling people "idiots", he isn't attacking your sister or brother. He is just talking about cars and I cant understand that people are so sensitive about it. Some of you need to grow a thicker skin. As long as he talks about cars then its all good.
NSL and others might not agree with me on this but this is how I feel.

Also, every new german car gets on the frontpage as soon as its revealed. I seriosly doubt BMW is different from other carmakers.

PS
I hope Mercedes send this board a guy like Scott and he would have the exact same rights as Scott (if it was for me to decide). Best of all it would make you guys happier.
