Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Drive

Congratulations. I think you chose a wonderful colour for the car. The car looks even better in real life.

When I was out driving in my new GT3 earlier this week, a driver with a SLS noticed me and VERY QUICKLY accelerated to catch up to me to drive by my side before stopping at a traffic light.. We exchanged a brief nod of approval to each other, and he sped away. The SLS is pretty wide and definitely has road presence. And the roar of the 6.2L V8 is just classic AMG good stuff.

Would love to hear your thoughts about the following: is it challenging to gauge your distance to curbs in the front because of the long hood and how wide the car is?

Yes, it is a little, I had to park on the street last night, as it doesn't fit in my garage due to how steep it is. Parking was a 2 person job:oops:. The biggest difficulty is due to the small windows and shoulder line and that you sit basically on the back of the car. I just don't want to scratch the wheels. It must look funny when I put the door up to check the distance.

Luckily I found a garage across the street where I can park it from next week.

I didn't have any nice cars in Australia ! I was too young...

The SLS must cost a bomb in Australia. I doubt I could afford it if I had stayed !

Lol.

I'm sure you would have still gotten something very nice if you stayed. ;)

It's about half a million!

Super machine Luke :)

Congrats and all times safe (and fast) drive.
It's funny you should mention that... was burning past Breisgau the other day at around 280km/h.

I just bought the b&o system at Mercedes-Benz used parts in Germany. Hopefully my dealer can fit it without a problem. The previous owner had put some stupid sound system in that had a lot of interference from the engine.

I guess now I just need the cable harness, a new parcel shelf (pricey) and the larger door inserts. Wish me luck.

Does anyone have access to Mercedes-Benz parts ? One of the other forums had the login details. ??

I sent the B&O parts back to MB....

my dealer quoted me 24 000 CHF To install them

I thought it would be about half that cost.

Whaaat? For that price, he should install them in his a-hole.:asshat:

Is there any other possibility, perhaps some workshop? 24.000... Jesus...

It would have probably been cheaper in Germany... I'll just leave it now. The problem was he would have had to order a new cable tree for the car, the door cards would need replacing and the rear parcel shelf. They quoted something like 50 hours labour.

My dealer is good, Switzerland is just expensive.... and he's probably used to customers who have way more money than I do :-)

Not to side track but I've been looking at car prices in Australia and it seems a Ferrari 458 (used) is cheaper than a SLS AMG used. That to me makes zero sense.

No idea... I didn't price shop the two.... I just checked used prices of both in Australia and swallowed my tongue.

ongoing maintenance costs probably have an impact on used car values..... ??

On a side note, some deck just backed into the car. Not much damage.... still annoying.

Sorry to read that, Luke. You ask yourself why some people just can't drive, at moments like this. I hope his car is more damaged!

It's repaired .... although they had to repair it twice. When I went to pick it up there was already another dent. No idea what went wrong haha

The biggest drama is always having to drop the car at the dealer....

I was unprepared for how much attention this car gets. It can even be a bit annoying... people on the street love to talk about it. I don't mind a chat... but sometimes I just want to get a coffee or something and go...

I guess I understand... I do like to just look at it.
