You are ignoring pics that clearly reveal regular placed door handles and focusing on other pics tht don't.
NOt trying to be snarky, but are you telling me you can't see this door handle?
Now I suppose it is possible that this is a faux handle, but I doubt it.

They could be trying out different ways for opening the doors. Whatever is convenient, logical and easy will probably make it onto the production car.

I'd shag Amy Winehouse for one of those pre-launch drives of the SLS at (of all places) the awesome Laguna Seca circuit.

Imagine, being one of the first to drive the most sporting Mercedes Benz in 30 years+ !

More so than the CLK DTM AMG coupé???? We'll see, but I doubt it.
Absolutely - I don't doubt it for a second. Sure we've seen CLK GTR's and DTM's but the former wasn't anything more than a race car with a Mercedes badge on it and the later was more body kit than leading edge technology.

This SLS with its M159 engine, torque tube-linked transaxle dual clutch gearbox, low CofG etc is, in my opinion, the sportiest, non-limited edition Mercedes Benz road car for as long as I can remember.

Besides the 580HP engine and I guess the boy racer body kit, there was nothing special about it - unlike the SLS. And to top it off, they even made a convertible version of it :eusa_doh:. You could argue about the CLK GTR being more sporty, but then it was hardly a street car. And yea, I know they chopped the roof off of that one too.

Absolutely agree.

I saw a CLK DTM cabrio a few days ago on Nice Airport (France). Made around 20 pics of it, and will post later.
It's pretty damn hardcore and spectacular on the road!

I hope you guys are right about the SLS. Would be sweet if it really becomes as good as you make it sound!

Edit; I also have pics up close from the SL65 Black Series. Siiiiick

I saw one in berlin once. It was at a traffic light, and started off. Was a Conv, with a chick driving it...

I admit it looks insane, and sounds even crazier. It's as loud in noise as in looks... Impressive and mean machine!

I'll just say this: the SLS's mechanical credentials already speak volumes for the anticipated capability of this car.

^ But often a car is not the sum of it's parts. It's something else, something special. The CLK DTM AMG has that special thing imo. I hope the SLS has it too.

^ I harbour no such appreciation for the DTM 'fraid...

Again, I have every expectation that physics and engineering attention to detail shall prevail and that the SLS will be the whole that is greater than the sum of its (already mightily impressive) parts.

Absolutely.

The most pleasant surprise of the SLS is definitely the mechanical package. I personally thought that Mercedes AMG was only going to a warmed-over version of the 7-speed MCT transmission into the SLS. But Mercedes AMG went the whole hog and gave it a brand new double clutch 7 speed transaxle!!!!

Hats off to the Mercedes AMG people!

But I still don't like the car's interior..............................:t-hands:

Does anyone know if this new gearbox is an in-house Mercedes designed/built unit or is it from the usual suppliers?

M

SL63' Multi-Clutch Transmission (planetary gearbox, with a wet-clutch) has been developped by Mercedes-benz in cooperation with Sachs if I'm not mistaken. So, unlike every other MB gearbox, not totally in-house. But it remains MB-specific.

I don't know about the SLS' (will it indeed be a whole new design?)
