Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Will Boast 670 Horsepower

Either they do it seriously, or not. For me, old heavy not that sporty V12 and old 5-speeds auto means big disappointment.

With the upcoming SLC supercar, in fact, I don't get the point of this car at all.
The car will sell on the looks alone. Maybe MB needs something to fill in the gap until the SLC arrives. the SLR coupe production has ended and the althought the roadster is beautiful, it isn't the same.

Something tells me that those criticising the engine and transmission have not yet driven a 65 car...

Was the SLRs` speeds numbers disapointment??
The SLR could outrun a Ferrari 599, the SLR 722 you know is even more powerful. The SL65 Black-Series is yet even more powerful. I think we might be in for a surprise with it`s overall performance. Don`t judge yet.

By the time the SLC comes on the scene the current SL should be fazed out (Black Series to.) replaced with a new SL.

Good points. I didn't think of that. The 0-200km/h time should be on a whole different level than the LP640 and 599GTB.

^
Bear in mind this is a Black-Series.. it should be more athletic than the SLR to boot. and should spank the Ferrari 599 overall.

(I`ll bet most didn`t believe the CLK63 BS could beat the BMW M6 in overall performance but it has in some tests. Really badly btw!;))

Only in a straight line.

With all the power and bold aerodynamics I damn sure it's just as competitive on the track which it should be considering that Mercedes have gone hardcore ever since the introduction of the C63. On the other hand there will be the SLC in case the SL65BS won't get the job done.

If the SL B.S is getting 5-gear automatic and V12 engine is probably becuase its cheaper than developing something new.

But I probably speak for everyone when I say we want the SL B.S to get the new MCT gearbox and a newly developed engine, more effective and lighter. We also want the SL B.S to cut 200-300 kg in total weight.

Mercedes are saving all the new cake for the SLC. See the SL BS as a way of saying good bye to the ancient engine and gearbox once and for all.

As for the weight reported weight advantage over the standard SL65 will be around 250kg.

I was not talking about the SL BS, but respoding to the "The SLR could outrun a Ferrari 599" comment.

And M3 CSL with a meager 360HP running circles around CLK 63 BS? ;)

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the engine its only around 250kgs which is quite light for a turboed V12, don't hear much complaints going around for other V12 supercars...The engine has the second highest peak torque in any production car available. If they do a good job gearing the 5-speed to the characteristics of the V12 they'll have a sportiesque ride.
6 or 7 gears with a engine generating this amount of torque is a bit excessive and unnessisary.

I rather see a completly new engine than an engine from year 2004. But maybe thats just_me.

^thats damn serious..but i think it will look even more distant from the SL63

I think so too, more WAR, more RAW with a less fuzzy front bumber giving it a sinister appearance. Imagine the car in matte black:icondrool:icondrool:icondrool:icondrool:icondrool So evil it would make the devil shed a tear.

For all its new body pannels, the BS is still an old architecture (after all, it is still a current generations SL). I do not see the reason for all the complaining that it has an old engine--which happens to be one of the most advanced in production today, nevertheless--and an old transmission--again, one of the most capable and revered automatics in production.

THe SLC is getting all the goodies, with an 8 (eight, not seven) speed MCT and the new 8 cylinder engine both in NA and BT form, not to mention a design to rank it as an aesthetic, sensual and "bespoke" competitor to anything the Modena, Italy factory can roll out.

The BS is simply one way for the R230 to bow out with a serious bang. I suspect that, when disclosed to the public, the actual outright investment in the project will be relatively modest as new model developments go. It is, after all, a tuning shop job.

ON the other hand, we should expect more when the R231 bows into the scene. The R231 Black Series will undoubtedly have far less compromises.

Too expensive to manufacture a new engine to be solely used in an Black Series. Wait for the SLC:usa7uh:

Just use the damn 6.3 engine in the 580HP trim with the MCT transmission. It is all there, there is no development cost. All they need is a change in mindset that it is not always about pulling-a-tree-stump-going-up-hill torque.

^Well this MB they can never play soft power wise plus this is the top of the line SL so it must be the most powerful;)
