All they really need to do is take the C217 and refresh its front and rear graphics and overhaul the interior. The C217's interior was stunning, and tbh only needs a refresh to the latest tech suites, and perhaps tweaking of the design, but overall its vastly superior in build and overall ergonomics to the current touch-screen fiestas. That looks terrible lol. It’s a patch job. I want a real coupe, not a 2-door sedan/chop job. I do think that making them AMG and Maybach only is the right approach. The question will they be different enough from each other and special enough to truly be worthy? This can’t be what they did with the SL. The Maybach needs the V12 and the AMG a high output V8. Next level interiors and high customization are a must. Otherwise it’s all waste of resources and a needless distraction.

Heavens no. Then it would be said that Mercedes didn’t do enough, phoned it in, half assesd effort etc.All they really need to do is take the C217 and refresh its front and rear graphics and overhaul the interior. Maybe that'd be what they say, but fundamentally that car was so beautiful, I don't think anyone would care.Heavens no. Then it would be said that Mercedes didn’t do enough, phoned it in, half assesd effort etc.

That having been said. There's plenty they could still do to improve the underpinnings, even if they keep the overall shape the same.
Stuff like adding in the crosslinked hydraulic dampers/sway bars, the magic body control thing that leans the car into corners. Generally making it a better blend of comfort and athleticism. Essentially the S-coupe should be the ultimate word in grand touring.
You can’t demand all this excellence from Mercedes and then support a chop job to continue a model as grand as the S Coupe. Just saying.I get you. But to be honest I'd be happy with A W204, C204 situation that's well executed.
I believe there is enough market demand to make a low volume chop job viable.

I mean the C217 while having it's own chassis code, was still fundamentally built in MRA and was in essence a shortened lowered S class. At least as far as I am aware anywayYou can’t demand all this excellence from Mercedes and then support a chop job to continue a model as grand as the S Coupe. Just saying.

The chassis is irrelevant. They all are related, the point is that past S coupes don’t look like a sedan with 2-doors missing.I mean the C217 while having its own chassis code, was still fundamentally built in MRA and was in essence a shortened lowered S class. At least as far as I am aware anyway
Yes it is. An epic car for Mercedes. The coupe looks terrible....i hope its fake.
For me, the C217 is still the most beautiful modern Mercedes.
Robert Lešnik did an amazing job here - its his absolute artwork and this car is already a future classic.
And for me, it looks more spectacular in this non-AMGpack version with those 5-spoke 20'' wheels.
