Awesome stuff, did you find any interior shots?

I'm curious to know the final outcome of what the headlights and grill will look like. Hope it will be added elegance.

My main questions for this FL S class are related to the interior which in my opinion needs a update for a number of things to make it look more expensive and upmarket. Door trim and center console black shiny plastic must be gone. Include some more choices of trims (wood.and metallic or stone trims) and seats in different top notch leathers, artico, wool and bring back velour.

I'm schocked what Mercedes has become...
Stars everywhere....is this a kindergarten? Are the S-Class buyers some kids, whick like blink blink and logos everywhere? no, we are not! Stars in the graphic of the lights just looks ridicolous.
S-Class is a serious car and like that he should keep the design.

Here's how i would like the MOPF:
- at the 63 giving him back the true Mercedes radiator grill
- no red badging in the rear
- lower part of the rear bumper in body color, because this black plastic looks grotesque
- new graphics of the rear headlights in a bichromatic style, as a kind of homage to the W140 mopf
- the shape of the exhaust system in the shape of headlights, because the blocky ones don't fit the design of the vehicle at all

and for the non AMG-engine models i would hide the exhaust system completely, like the W140/W220 had it and give him back a more elegant front bumper - not as agressive then the actual car. The S-Class is a classy business limousine - no need for agressive plastic-fantastic bumpers...
Also no 3-dots front LED's and bs...just an elegant front light with daylight in 'stardust' design (like the W213vorMopf and W222mopf had it on the rearlighst - for me still the most beautiful rear light of all S-Classes)

I still can't appreciate the design of the W223 to this day, the facelift is even worse now with the tacky stars everywhere.
W222 stole my heart.

I feel the W223 has the most sporty/aggressive face the S has worn.
I think the W223 looks fantastic from the rear, I really like the tail light graphics, they look great at night. I hope the new Mercedes stars won't spoil its cohesive look and make it look tacky.

I find the current S Class design fairly bland compared to the previous version, though very much still attractive. Weirdly, for the first time I like the non-AMG trim more, most likely due to the traditional grille with the free-standing star on the top of the hood. The current S 63 is perplexing to me and somewhat makes the entire design even more derivative/blander in my eyes, at least for a S Class.

I've been cured of my "want" to have the highest spec model for the latest S and will happily "settle" for a low-mile S 580 with sports package in the near future. That is, unless I decide my two young kids can fit fine in the rear seats of a face-lifted S 63 Coupe from the previous generation!

I briefly flirted with getting a GT 63 S (the generation without the quirky second facelift that aims to copy the new coupe, but my research indicates it would not be a nice daily. I commute 15 miles one way on poorly conditioned U.S. Midwest roads and I feel I'd not enjoy it as much as the S Coupe (long a dream car of mine).

Right on brother. The S Coupe is also a dream car of mine. Though I am quite a long way off affording one for now.

I drove the S 580 with AMG package this afternoon. As I make my decision to finally get a “big boy” car, I wanted to test the validity of my 25-year aspiration to own a S Class when I could finally afford it. Prior to today, my most recently driven S Class was a 222 generation S 550 without AMG package.

First thing first, this S 580 drove leagues better than the old S 550. I personally could not pick a difference between Comfort and Sport. I did not go into sport plus. I was taken aback by the spongy feel of the brakes and accelerator. I had read for years how the S 580 tries to build a syrup-like layer around your actions for the sake of luxury and today I found out I am not much a fan of that. The seats felt super big and I found the pillow in the front seats pointless (no support). It did not help that at the time of this test drive my neck for whatever reason started acting up (I bet it was the stress of driving a car that was not mine :), though it went away later when I drove the new E 53 :)).

I gave it the beans briefly and, yes, the power was more than adequate. I could not hear the V8 except for a brief second at startup (though maybe because the salesperson somehow insisted on taunting the sound system by keeping the music on lightly).

The ride was overall dreamy. As I like a bit of sporty flavor on my car (I currently drive a BMW), I feel the S 580 is too sedate. Though I bet my annual five hour drives up north to our lake vacations would be amazing.

They had two S 63 E Performance models, one white in the showroom and one black in the lot. I made the tactical mistake of disclosing my budget, because the salesman demurred when I asked if they were available on the test drive. I did not feel like begging, especially because I have zero intent of considering that size of purchase.

I drove the E 53 immediately after, because I made the comment that the S felt too big. I wrote about that on another thread. Long story short, I found it much more pleasing overall, nimble, athletic, powerful, with the right kind of spice I’ve apparently grown to appreciate in cars.

I went there to validate a long held feeling and I think I’m cured of it. A regular S class is likely not in my immediate future. I wonder how different an AMG S Class feels! But for now, the E 53 has given me much to think about. Especially because it looks like a mini S 63 that has gone to the gym and cut weight for competition.

You are right about one thing, the S class executes everything with a layer plushness and aplomb that makes everything feel effortless. It's not for everyone, but if you want a proper luxury barge with elegant styling, it's as good as it gets. I love pushing it in Sports + mode because it never gets flustered and the ride remains brilliantly controlled and comfortable.
