S-Class W222 Mercedes-Benz S 600 (V222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
^ The problem may have been the W220 at the time. Some folks may have switched to the R230 instead. Should MB drop the SL in the next generation, and have the S-Class cabrio instead? :)

Yep even 2013 couldn't match 2006 on back. It is that way for all the German high end cars except the A8.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach Spotted at the Nürburgring

Between the all-new S-Class Coupe and yet-to-be-revealed Pullman, Mercedes-Benz is slowly expanding the S-Class lineup to include more model variants. Also new for the full-size sedan is an S 600 extended wheelbase version, which many have speculated will adopt the Maybach name to represent an ultra-luxurious variant of the standard car.

The S600 Maybach was previously seen parked with some minor camouflage in potential range-topping S65 AMG trim and now, the vehicle has also been spotted testing on the Nurburgring. This model appears to be in a lower level trim with less sporty wheels and a less aggressive front and rear fascia.

The S 600 Maybach is rumored to have the same 2+2 seating configuration of the current S-Class, albeit with more luxurious amenities. The car will also be joined by the aforementioned ‘Pullman’ limousine variant, which some magazines have reported will cost as much as $1 million in the United States.

still looks like an S Class which think would make a person who is about to spend the money they are thinking of for one of these, think twice, then head on over to the RR or Bentley showroom.

As much as I am a huge fan of the S-Class, I would have to agree with you... but maybe this will have it's place for chauffeur companies or those that have a fleet of cars... servicing and running costs would be cheaper etc ??

I'll just be glad when they show the thing, whatever it is going to be called or compared to, just show it. NO a stretched S-Class won't pull many Phantom or Mulsanne buyers IMO. Mercedes needs a one off, retro but modern looking car to tackle that segment. Something that makes the S550, S600, S63, S65 etc look plain and regular, if such a thing is possible. The Maybach by Mercedes? No, how about the S660 Maybach, with a new 6.6L V12 and no interior pieces or exterior sheetmetal shared with the the W222.

Then you'd have a complete sedan lineup:

S300
S450 (new 375hp I6 for 2017)
S400
S500/550
S63 AMG
S600
S65 AMG
S550/S600/S65 Pullman
S660 Maybach - completely different interior and exterior with new 6.6L turbo V12 - 700-800hp. Smashing the Muslanne and aimed right at the next rumored V16 Phantom, a colossal cost be dammed luxury car that spares nothing. State of the art engineering, lightweight for its class and epic styling, a car that rides and handles better than the Phantom. Bring back a special team for the design, headed by Brunno Sacco some type of tech like Desotto should debut with this car. Something you simply can't get on the S-Class for a few more years. I know Mercedes can do this if the money were to be approved.

There is no need for a Maybach GL or MLC, that is just silly IMO. Keep Maybach Exclusive. They had the right idea before, but the execution was way off. Now the rolls are reversed. The W221 obsoleted the W240 Maybach, but now the W222 is out, bring out something that puts it on the shelf for twice the price. If designed right it will sell like very pricey hotcakes. A simple stretched S won't worry Bentley and Rolls, there has alway been a stretched S around since the W140. Matters not to Phantom and Mully buyers.

That said, where the hell is my S550 Cabriolet?

It is not in the company's interest to produce a limited run model that makes its mass produced profit centers look plain and regular.

Figuratively speaking it would be, and its the only way they're going to sell anything beyond the normal S-Class. The need a car with an even more WOW factor than a loaded S550 or S63 AMG. Of course it won't make these cars look plain, hyperbole, but you get my meaning. A longer S600 isn't going to cut it IMO if you want Phanton and Mulsanne buyers.

M

^ Not so sure they may want to compete for Phantom and Mulsanne buyers? Suspect it may be more kind of an understated and not so flashy business type limousine, with optional GUARD. And agreed, a more powerful V12 may be quite likely in the heavier special protection vehicles, remembering even the 1998 Brabus M V12 came with upwards of 7 liters or so of displacement. :)

I think business-wise it is not the most productive use of Mercedes time. Such models need bespoke assemblies, research and development and certification. Revenue (units sold x net price) will fall way short of mass exercises such as even the CLA. And truthfully, other than us MB groupies in forums like this, I am not sure anyone is hurting for a more exclusive Mercedes sedan. Let's not forget that MB was down this road before and failed (some would say miserably) with Maybach 57 and 62.

I agree, the business case isn't there per say, but all this talk of a 1M sedan has me thinking they're going to go for that part of the market again. The Maybachs failed because of the car itself, they were outdated by the W221 the moment it went on sale and they were goofy looking at best.

S600 from mbusa.com

Unlike previous generation why S600 don't have s special wheel design! As well as V12 badge is unseen anywhere inside. Any say?

^ The wheel might depend on the country as the German configurator shows a different one. Also, the configurators only give suggestions, but may not always be correct. :)

^ you are right Wolfgang and the above design is brilliant and has an exclusiveness. But during W221 configurator by default V12 design was shown for S600 in almost all site including German & US sites.

^ Suspect MB may want to protect the exclusivity of the S 65 AMG? :)

The different options per country may have to do with the new taylor made approach Mercedes uses. Thus MBUSA may have selected a different standard wheel for the S 600 more aligned with the American style, than the 10R standard 19" wheel Mercedes-Benz Germany chose for its market.
