S-Class (W222) Mercedes-Benz S 600 (V222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
I think business-wise it is not the most productive use of Mercedes time. Such models need bespoke assemblies, research and development and certification. Revenue (units sold x net price) will fall way short of mass exercises such as even the CLA. And truthfully, other than us MB groupies in forums like this, I am not sure anyone is hurting for a more exclusive Mercedes sedan. Let's not forget that MB was down this road before and failed (some would say miserably) with Maybach 57 and 62.

One of the reasons I prefer Mercedes brand over its arch rivals is that Mercedes do some cars that doesn't make much business case at least to an untrained eye like mine. For example, the Sterling Moss version of the SLR had a bespoke external and interior design in the recent past and the company was ought to sell 80 cars, if I remember the numbers correctly. For such a small batch of cars they created a very different looking machine than the car on which it was based. Now the Pullman version with all its amenities is also going to be a very exclusive machine, if not design-wise. In late 1990s Mercedes created the beautiful CLK-GTR version in limited quantities and yes they also created a bespoke machine called Maybach 57/62. Today Mercedes Benz is in much stronger position financially than when they were supporting Chrysler I think. I expect from Mercedes-Benz that they would continue with their approach and create something unique, because of all the mass market producers it is this company that has the guts to look beyond the bottom line on each of their model. And if they don't create a bespoke model, it may only be that they don't want to put anything above the already prestigious S class.

Here is a new S600 pic I got from a FB page; this wheels look awesome, IMO the best among the regular variants.

Completely agree. MB can do anything they want at ANY price, because there will be people who want it. They just have to do it right, like the G63 AMG 6x6. And not wrong, like the Maybach.

Got few more pics of S600.

Agreed. 6 wheeler G class is another machine from Mercedes that others may not even think of.

I saw few S classes (W222) IRL and I think Mercedes doesn't need any exclusive model above the S for the moment. There is no competition for S, in my opinion, in its mainstream target market. If one wants equal amount of aristocracy and grandeur in car design, inside and outside, one needs to spend considerably more (RR and Bentley) to get it. I now feel that Mercedes actually needs a car between S class and E class to compete with the sporty alternatives of the A8, LS460, XJ and even the 7.

The S600 looks fantastic in black and those multi spoke wheels look great. I cant wait till one of the German Mags do a roadtest of this car.

^ thank you for bringing out the review of S600. Request you to dub it in English or give an English subtitle

Noted a few items in the vid.

The Distronic plate in the grille is called the Abstandsregeltempomat or "ART".

The 6.0 liter V12 does have a small AMG label, and it was built by Michael Kübler together with an apprentice. It has 36 valves, 530 hp and twin plugs, thus 24 all together. It's the new fuel efficient M277.

A double USB port is located in the rear center armrest. Comes with a single TV tuner, thus it's not possible to watch different channels on the left and right side. Noted the remarks about MBC, which is somewhat firmer than anticipated since it's a sport oriented suspension, compared to the Airmatic. 3.0 also remarked the coupe interior which they recently drove for comparision, may be somewhat quieter. He still prefers the sedan over the coupe, though. 5.6 prefers the coupe. The hydraulic suspension oil, tank and measuring stick is the familar one, known from previous models.

They nearly ran out of gas, and put 76.71 liters in. The capacity is 80 liters. 5.6 approved the S 600 aka Moby Dick. (y)

Thanks for the great review, the S600 is a fantastic car although I personally prefer it in black with a two tone interior
