Mercedes-Benz GLK (spy photos & info)

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

I'm really liking the shape of this. Much better than the initial prototype we saw for a small SUV a few years back.

I'm loving the AMG 19" rims they put on this thing for the track.

I hope they adopt these side mirrors on the GL and ML.

Is this going to be built in Alabama?

I think that was the Smart SUV that got canned? :eusa_thin

If there is ONE thing I have learned from viewing various "spy shots" of new Mercedes products the past few years, I no longer make any comments until all of the body cladding is removed. Remember the new S-Class and the CL ?

I think everyone should apply this perspective to not just MB but every car make as well when it comes to prototypes of upcoming cars. You really never going to know "what you're gonna get in a box-uh-chocolates" - as long as those cars are wrapped in camo we don't know what the finished product will look like, so it would do us all a favor to work on exercising a little patience....something us humans aren't very good at, unfortunately.

Brilliant post. Both the CL and S had me worried for weeks, and then poof(!) there was nothing to worry about, in fact just the opposite.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

I remember the Smart SUV, but there was also a small MB SUV prototype that ran around for a while with plenty of spy shots. captured.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Looks like the GLK will break up the generic look of the small SUV class thanks to some inspiration from it's brutish looking big brother, the G-class.:t-cheers:

you mean by making just another size of almost the same SUV like the ML and GL?

Mercedes GLK or MLK To Be Presented to the Press in June

We just received off the record information that Mercedes is planning to surprise members of the press by unveiling the all-new GLK or as others call it, MLK, compact SUV during the late June press gathering for the presentation of… -well, thee who have received the invitation, know the exact date and reasons for the trip so let’s not say any more. Unfortunately, from what we learned, there’s going to be an embargo on info and pictures. But there’s no need to worry as Mercedes will probably hand out preliminary images and specs well before the confirmed Frankfurt Show premier of their BMW X3 adversary in September.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Looks like it's getting the C Class interior. Should keep the price down of the vehicle since they don't have to fully redesign the interior. This is how MB is cutting costs these days, I think if this were 5-10 years ago this car would have its own unique interior, not that having the C class interior is a bad thing.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Actually I disagree. If this MB had come out ten years ago or longer, it probably would have had a similar interior to the MBs of the time. Only in recent MB history have their cars had such a wide variety of different interiors that were dramatically different from the rest of the cars in their line. If you remember in the 1980s... You would be hard pressed to define an S class interior to an E class int. Key differences are apparent but the general design was pretty much the same. Not to mention the same materials were used in all of the cars. Just my opinion.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Both of what you're saying is true to a degree. Overall it isn't bad that the GLK have the C's interior, but they could have change some little things. This however looks like a cut and past job, not sure I like that.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

At yesterday's MB SUV family presentation in Kitzbühel, Austria, MB officials confirmed GLK SUV is coming (d'oh!), and would hit the showrooms in the 2nd half of 2008.

:t-cheers:

So, we can expect the car to be shown in Geneva 2008.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Mercedes has confirmed the release of the 2009 GLK SUV and has announced that the first cars will appear on the market from the second half of next year. This will be the fifth SUV/Crossover model in Mercedes’ lineup, joining cars like the M-Class, R-Class, GL and the old-school G-Class SUV.

Several prototypes have been spotted cold weather testing in Scandinavia, which revealed a design similar to the bigger GL-Class SUV. This rendering, compiled with information sourced from insiders close to the project, show that the new GLK picks up the same angular design theme and ruggedness seen in the rest of the Mercedes SUV range.

A steep front with a steeper windshield will dominate the car’s looks, broad shoulders and squared off corners and edges with Mercedes’ typical character line and chunky 20in wheels complete the rugged theme.

Early reports indicated that the GLK will measure 4.5m and feature an elegant but basic interior. It’ll offer space for five passengers and will have generous trunkspace, which will be accessible over a relatively low tailgate
