Mercedes-Benz GLK (spy photos & info)

Re: Spy Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz MLK

Sorry if i meddle in your bussiness...
I think that Mercedes is trying to maximize their profit. They invested in the platform of the new C-Class and now, they're making any model that can be made on the respective platform because the investemnts won't be so significant. This will help reduce the cost of production and thus maximize the profit. The investments beeing low, the MLK won't need to be a hot seller and will soon make profit.
I think it's all about economics :)

Exactly, its the same thing with the E/CLS. A new body and some spiffy interior pieces and poof you have a new model that costs minimally more to build but you can charge a lot more for it.

Why do you think everyone else is jumping to come up with a CLS-like product that is in most cases (except Porsche) based on an existing platform.

I think it is already clear BMW is attempting to put a BMW in every garage, the only difference is that they may not build as many variants of each model as Mercedes does, but they'll soon have nearly as many different models as Mercedes if the X6 and all those 1-Series variants are for real. Then comes the crossover like the R-Class, I forget what its being called this week. V5 maybe??

Re: Spy Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz MLK

Headlights look more GL than ML.

Re: Spy Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz MLK

this is going to be a mix bettween the ML and the GL class ...

Re: Spy Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz MLK

Its hard to tell the size of the vehicle in these photos. These pics look like old ML photos, but that "character" line down the side says otherwise. I dunno looks like a (old photos) ML to me.

Mercedes, PLEASE DON'T! I dont know if I've ever seen so much stupidity in one brand before. The reason they're in the Sh*t hole right now is because of them overflowing their own market. Basically they have too many cross over vehicles and not enough money and time is going into their core models. This is just another car their spending money on that wont sell and certainly isnt going to take any market share from the already baren segment. Uhh, hey Mercedes, how well do you think BMW is doing with their X3? Not good.

(stupid symbol times a thousand!)

I'm sorry Matt, but you're just another american that doesn't have a clue.
Regardless of the situation in USA the X3 is a succes story as far as sales and profits go.
In several European countries the smaller engine versions start at ~30000 euros and prices go up Audi A6 levels. Even so the X3 in several countries fights neck to neck and even outsells the RAV4, and this without any incetives.

So stop this idiotic non-sense and remember USA is not the whole world.
Audi is making a competitor, Saab is making one, even porsce is considering one, so for MB to make one is perfectly normal.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

It looks like it is going to have the same head lights as the new c-class. The overall shape is similar to the shape of the X3.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Why does MB need all this?! B, R, A now MLK Class, all some mutants...

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

To me it looks like it has the same type of shape as a Jeep Commander. It seems very tall and boxy.

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

Interesting, remember I posted these a while back?
pretty simular. Btw, I herd rumers of an AMG version of this vehicle..

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

I'm wondering, since they take so long, and seem to be using MORE camo than in the beginning: did they start all over again with the exterior? Maybe the first one got axed?

You know Rik you might be correct because the previous supposed spy pictures of this model made it look like a baby ML, and you would think the car would be farther along than these pictures indicate. Maybe they did start over. It definetly looks to be more in-line with the above sketches.

I agree.

The A and B-Class are acceptable, but the R-Class is pointless in my opinion although I was quite impressed with it after testdriving one.

This GLK class is meant to take on the BMW X3. The X3 is virtually alone in this segment with the Acura MDX. Is this niche so profitable? I always thought the X3 and MDX didn't sell too well. :t-hands:

Either way, I am not too thrilled about this car as I feel MB could use the investing cash to do something else. Perhaps their marketing research has found demand for such a car. Who knows though...

Last year BMW sold over 111,000 units of X3. So more than X5 - its sales were around 101k units. :usa7uh:

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

^preach..
good to see MB entering this segment.. we dont like monopoly:D

Re: NEW GLK Spy Photos

I just hope they don't carry over the minivan-like rear from MLs. :eusa_pray
