Woho..im stoked to see this
Over 400nm sounds like fun![]()
Indeed. But where does the "45" in the name, come from? That is a monster 4-banger. Ironically, in the compact segment, Mercedes will have the smallest engine: 2.0l I4 (AMG) vs. 2.5l I5 (RS) vs. 3.0l I6 (M).
As nice as it is.
I mean the shapes of some lines, the rear lights and the roof... Can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but the new A-class has just always reminded me of Citroen's DS3/4/5 designs.^Why the only similarity i see is the yellow color..haha
Indeed. But where does the "45" in the name, come from?
^Thats cause the 6.3 is legendary AMG displacement..so they decided to call it 6.3 instead of 6.2..close enough..
But that's far from the only example of misleading badges in the car industry
for instance the 328i is 2.0 like the 320..
Or the 335 which is in fact a 3.0
go figure
^they don't? i always thought E500 meant 5.0 and 528 meant 2.8..
Why else call it that? why not 320i and 320i sport or something along those lines?
^yes i know..many manufacturers do it now a days..
But in short the answer to your question is.. the legendary status of the 6.3 litre displacement withing AMG..
Thats why they call it 6.3 if it wasent for that C 62 AMG would work good enough

http://www.dctfacts.com/emerging-technology/mercedese-dct.aspxHenning’s team felt that achieving the target torque capacity of 350 Nm with a dry clutch system would result in a larger and heavier package with higher moments of inertia, pointing toward inferior shift quality. An oil-cooled multi-plate clutch design would, on the other hand, allow greater torque capacity and a subsequent upgrading to 450 Nm for future and more powerful all-wheel drive derivatives. Specifically, said Henning, the wet clutch system is 10 kg lighter and has 50 percent less inertia than a dry counterpart would have been.
I think "45" stands for power output equivalent to 4.5 litter engine , just like other Mercedes models.Indeed. But where does the "45" in the name, come from?
Ahso.
That's the M100 with 6332 cc in the W109 above (300SEL 6.3). Lateron in 1975 the 6.9 followed in the W116 chassis (450SEL 6.9) with 6834 cc.
