McLaren has revealed the official name of their next Ultimate Series hypercar, which will be called Speedtail.
Previously codenamed BP23, it will use a hybrid powertrain, combining a petrol engine, probably an upgraded version of the 720S’ twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, with at least one electric motor. The British car company says the new McLaren Speedtail will be able to exceed the peak speed of the legendary F1 of 391km/h (243mph).
Wtf, dont get it. So many Mclarens came to market in recent years.
Senna, hard punch to P1 owners. Now this one?
When I saw it at Topgear facebook page I thought this car is about top speed record, but here it says "road f1 car with hybrid tech".
I think Mclaren made a total of 106 F1, including all the variations and race cars. So this Speedtail is following the tradition.Does the number 106 have some significance in McLaren lore that I'm not aware of because besides being a low number, it just seems arbitrary.
I reckon that if they achieve good synergies between their cars they can break even with a volume of 106 given a price of €1.7 to €2 million.Well, considering the Senna and Speedtail are effectively replacng the P1, I'd expect it to trump it.
In a way it seems that McLaren are listening to their customers; some wanted a P1 sans the weight penalty from a hybrid system, so they made the Senna. And some wanted a further evolution of the P1, hence the Speedtail. The speedtail gets the added bonus of center seat position. What somewhat surprises me is how low the production number is for the Speedtail. Does the number 106 have some significance in McLaren lore that I'm not aware of because besides being a low number, it just seems arbitrary.
The design looks interesting. At least the back of the car is for sure much nicer than the Sennas...Official unveiling will be on 26th october!

True, but both cars don't have the same purpose though...The design looks interesting. At least the back of the car is for sure much nicer than the Sennas...

In current production of course. This will be the most elegant Mclaren...
When will Mclaren hit a performance wall? Their are innovating at an alarming pace. The Speedtail, Senna and 720LT or whatever they will call it, will dominate racing tracks.
Not keeping myselft up to date with the perfomance figures of the top segment. Are the latest offerings by McLaren outperforming the equivalent Ferraris and Lambos?
