Leaked: F20 1-Series Hatchback (5dr)

That unpleasant to read so many atrocities.
You expect the car was equal to its predecessor?? It's ridiculous.

The front looks very nice and different, I would have liked even more radical yet, but I think it works very well.

The only criticism is just that the back could have been more change, is very similar to the previous model, should have been more radical change there.
The side I can not speak much, there is no clear picture but overall is a winner, and I bet you THIS sell more than its predecessor.

The only real problem is the mega high and bulbous bonnet, not the light, why did they go that road ? The rest is very good executed, surface work specialy looks very well made and doesn't have that cheap impression the precedent car had.

WOW.....is that ugly. All the more reason to keep this car out of the U.S. BMW's U.S. lineup doesn't need this boat anchor. The front end obviously suffers from Europ pedestrian impact standards/engineering overkill. WOW. Ugly as shyte.

Now lets wait for all the excuses and BS to explain why its uglier than sin. None of which will explain this stink little car's looks. Cue the violins, design explanation pending from BMW creative (damage) control.

It has a much better appearance in real life where you can see every line and every detail. Very nice in Titanium silver. It brings forth all the visible details.

I'd like to see it in person, but there is nothing about that front end that is going to get better in person. The hood and headlight arrangement is just plain ugly. Way too bulbous hood and headlights look like a crazy person.

Hmmm. It certainly looks different. The interior does look pretty good. As for the exterior? Well, the driver has already pulled a pretty good looking chick so it can't be that bad in real life. What this car tells you is that you too can be succesful with the ladies if you drive a one series.

Notice on the Dynamic Drive it says "Eco Pro" instead of "Comfort".

The only real problem is the mega high and bulbous bonnet, not the light, why did they go that road ?

There is an EU pedestrian safety regulation requiring certain blank space between hardest parts under the bonnet (shock absorber housings, engine block) and the bonnet.

So the requirement can be met by making the whole nose high & keep the bonnet relatively flat, or keeping the nose low but then the hood has to be bulbous or featuring voluminous creases.

:t-cheers:

You can see both way of execution. Eg. BMW likes low nose + bulbous hood, while eg. Audi go with high nose + flatter hood.

Yes, EU pedestrian safety regulation DO AFFECT automotive design!

It looks like a clown's shoe. Awful. M

Actually the proportions & the silhouette looks better on F20 than on E87. F20 looks less "shoe-like" compared to E87. That's much more evident IRL when comparing both cars to each other directly. :)

about exactly 4 years ago, the design process of the F20 was kicked off - and I was there. I took part in the first two presentations and did some sketches along with the other designers who took part in the project. I remember some very daring and extremely cool designs by the other guys. what I see here doesn't satisfy me as I've been waiting for something really special after seeing what the guys came up with back then.
On the other hand, I do see some interesting details of which I'm sure that the photo don't do justice. I'm gonna have to wait and see the car in person before giving my final judgment.

Yes it is hard to be believe that cars that we are seeing now such as the 1er or the forthcoming 3er , are already years old in our eyes.
I seen the early 1er and 3er design models just before Christmas 2007 I think. I should put Time Traveller on my resume.

that looks incredibly HUGE for a baby bmw. Design is okay at best, not bowled over by it.

It won't be baby for a long time since sub-1er is coming in a few years. And the upcoming 3er is also a bit bigger than the current one, so ... :)

Wait a min, isnt there going to be an actual sedan this time around for the U.S. market?

Interior A+
Exterior B-

Why B-, those lights, it's as simple as that. The rest of it is what it is for the segment, but the shape of those lights are/is just falling all over itself. I don't see how they can be redeemed. It's the face of the car for crying out loud. At least it looks a little better in dark colours. I was a fan of Bangle, and if I ever have the money I will secure one of the prototype Z4 coupes, not the production ones, but the beauties with the woven leather interiors and those faux spoke wheels, and the first generation curved air dam!

Holy crap! I think I am going to puke! :eek2:

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I seriously doubt the design can impress me in person when I see the car. I mean the basic shape is a carry-over of the original 1er, which is fine since that car is handsome-looking, but this design is ruined by those headlights that look so out of place on this thing. I'm not feeling the rear lights either.

I can not believe what I read, the front is beautiful, aggressive, and I repeat, different and special.
the only thing that bothers me besides all the garbage I'm reading about this car is that he wished that his side had also changed but not because it is ugly but because it is generally very similar to the old car.

I remember in 2004 when it left the series 1, the atrocities that all who call themselves fans of BMW wrote, destroyed his design, and now the same without any valid argument, it is a shame.

I'd like to see it in person, but there is nothing about that front end that is going to get better in person. The hood and headlight arrangement is just plain ugly. Way too bulbous hood and headlights look like a crazy person.

I have to say that this is the UGLIEST beemer ever!! Uglier then the X3, uglier than the old 7er... Oh God... Cant look at it... Oh God... What on earth happened???
Look at the comments on worldcarfans.com haha... 99% HATE IT.

Good God BMW...what happened to you...
Couldn't agree more with you guys! This car is really-really unbelievably horrible!
The headlight should have looked like this Autobild's rendering, simple, sharp, aggressive, and of course not that big!

This is the result of being too creative after winning so many design awards from 5er, 6er, 7er, Z4, etc, they want to make something unique but instead it turns out to be horrible! BMW should keep their creativity in line by making something unique but still looking good, not like this ugly little brother! He must be shame if standing with his other handsome and beautiful brothers & sisters.
For me the side, rear, and interior is OK, the main problem is the front part which became the face of it. If it's already looking bad, no matter how good the rest parts of the car, or how good the photos were taken, if you're ugly, you still ugly.
