i8 Leaked? BMW i8 Spyder

The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. The i8 was part of BMW's electrified fleet and was marketed under the BMW i sub-brand. The production version of the BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was released in Germany in June 2014. Deliveries to retail customers in the U.S. began in August 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Production ended in June 2020.
@Scott, I've always been wary of hybrid cars because of the fear of battery life and replacement costs that certain motoring press have claimed for these car so can you enlighten us what is the potential lifespan of the batteries used in both the i8 and i3 and have you any idea as yet to replacement and disposal charges?

I am aware of that but as most of the other figures are known and since this is possibly the most important concerns of owning a hybrid these key questions really need to be answered........and soon don't you think?

Throughout the BMWi testing phase BMW are testing various solutions to determine what is right for the car , I will say that having the advantage of being in a position of having access to perhaps the industry's best Hybrid technology determines BMW's goal to change the overall perception of Alternative Drive with the BMWi cars.

Why? is the car on sale yet? No.
Is the car available for ordering yet? No.
Is the figure avail be for 918 yet? No.
Is the 918 available for ordering? Yes.
Is the figure avail be for Fisker yet? No.
Is the Fisker available for ordering? Yes.

And yet BMW is somehow supposed to release this information? why?Do you have this information for another hybrid that is not on sale yet?

The cars are set for launch in 2013/14. Plenty of technological developments can happen during that time.

Now that's a more constructive answer to give than the above. :t-cheers:

Hey you never know until you answer the question.

BMW i8 Spyder Concept teased ahead of 2016 CES

I am not sure if I think gesture control is a good form of activating the various functions inside a cars interior, it makes a driver or passenger more focused on concentrating on their hand movements or finger movements to make sure they select the correct control functions. This is a safety risk for the driver as he loses concentration on driving the vehicle, whereas current method of using an actual hand control or button doesn't require alot of concentration to activate.

I have a 7er at the moment and it is very simplified to use even when you are driving. You would be surprised how you can perform the allocated gestures without taking your eyes off the road. It is simple as the gestures become second nature, once you know what they function.

BMW AirTouch is the next phase of gesture control and it is coming sooner than you think as is iDriveTouch.

The same kind of animosity towards gesture control is similar to iDrive in 2001. Now every car in every segment offers a similar interface. It will be the same for Gesture control in around ten years.
Or maybe some are happy being the analog guy in a digital world?

Scott, could new and added gestures be programmed back into 7 series already sold?
This could be frustrating for the owner of a new 7 series seeing a new model with much more complex gesture control / airtouch functionality while his car is limited to just a few...

BMW i8 Spyder reportedly delayed until 2017 or 2018
Fans have been clamoring for a production version of the BMW i8 Spyder concept but it appears they will have to wait a little longer.

According to Motoring's sources, the production model has been delayed and won't arrive until 2017 or 2018. The publication goes onto say there will no newBMW i models introduced this year and thei8 Spyder could be beaten to market by the i5 which is slated to be introduced next year.

There's no word on what is responsible for the delay but speculation suggests the i8 wasn't originally designed to be a roadster or the company is waiting to upgrade the model so it has the same powertrain as the i8 Safety Car from Formula E.

Of course, there could also be a simpler explanation as one senior insider told the publication "The i8 is selling well enough now, so the lineup doesn’t strictly need it." The unnamed employee also noted the i8 Spyder is coming, just more slowly than expected as "... it’s not all we are doing.”

The i8 Spyder concept was originally introduced in 2012 but BMW recently unveiled anupdated version of the concept at the Consumer Electronics Show.

BMW confirms i8 Spyder for 2018

Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, confirmed today that the BMW i8 Spyder will arrive in 2018.

BMW first teased a convertible version of the i8 four years ago and delivered another one, the BMW i Vision Future Interaction, last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

We recently discussed why an i8 Spyder would be such an attractive and desirable car, with a design that will be slightly updated compared to the concept version.

The open-top i8 will be built under the codename I15 and it’s rumored to embody the future of cutting-edge and emotionally appealing mobility concepts. Just like the “regular” i8, the two-seater roadster blends lightness, dynamic capability and efficiency with a very special aesthetic allure.

The i8’s plug-in hybrid powertrain will likely carryover, while getting an updated battery pack and a potential increase in power. The current i8 makes 360 horsepower and hits 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
