2 Series LEAK: 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

This likely ain't no M2 (wouldn't be teased this early) but it does have M mirrors, power dome and spoiler, so it might have us fooled if it weren't for the timeframe and what appears to be M Performance style trapezoidal exhaust pipes. Obviously more M2 stuff is trickling down to the M240i than before and hopefully the same will apply to other future M Performance models.

I'd expect (...expectedly) the interior to closely resemble the 1er and Z4

I am not seeing the powerdome or M mirrors either?

The new M3/M4 uglier style mirrors, which look exactly like the regular mirrors but with little winglets clumsily tacked on just for the sake of it, instead of looking like they're bespoke and part of the overall design and shaped by the wind

Z4 platform sounds very logical and smart. Interior is going to be very interesting to see what happens indeed. If the 3er/4er, X5/6 all get the curved LCD screen with their facelift, surely the 2er will come with it from the beginning?
If it is a reasonable doubt and quite intriguing, on the one hand it does not seem so from what I see here:

On the other hand, this is the new X6, but putting that screen on it does not combines at all with the rest of the design, vents, etc., the enormous expense to redo everything to make it work aesthetically in an LCI I still can't understand it well

1er is on a completely different architecture, so not the 1er. It'll either be the Z4 or G20, or something bespoke.
It’s an intelligence mix using 3 cars. Primarily it’s the Z4.

So what's the M240i's final launch configuration? Thundernight over Black as spied earlier or 'Superman' Marina Bay Blue over Fiona Red as it appears above? ?

The spy photographs from the photo shoot in Barcelona show the M240i in Thundernight. I presume this will be the launch colour with possibly an additional colour just for the M Sport Packet?

BMWBlog is hinting at OS 8 (iX version)

I think it already looks fairly good in that pic, lol

Will be interesting to see, how the decontenting of the M2 (G87) compared to M3/M4 looks this time around.
I would not expect that drastically as with the F87 pre LCI, which had not even an S engine and also only meh seats.

If rumours are correct, the G87 will get the same powertrain as the G8x and even a CFRP roof.
... but not the suberb bucket seats? This would be a clear sign of decontenting:
- M CEO Markus Flasch mentioned recently, that the carbon buckets are a highlight of the G8x
- from an overall perspective the less comfortable and a bit harder to enter carbon buckets fit the smaller/more nimble M2 better than the more GT like M3/M4 ... of course imho.

All in all the G87 has the chances to become legendary:
- last pure ICE M car
- last pure RWD small coupe
- based on an almost bespoke platform (2 series base isn't mass market) with extremly good roots in the G29.
- after the S58 DME has been jailbreaked (soon to be the case) almost unlimited tuning potential! Just follow the latest videos from the driftbrothers and Markus Flasch! The S58 base is much more powerfull/capable as would have been needed for the civillian M cars. The engine is/was overdesigned because BMW Motorsport will heavily rely on it for the next years ... starting with the M4 GT3. According to Flasch they had the alternatives: Make the S58 just good enough for series production application and then spend additionally 30 millions to adapt it for motorsport purpose OR put 100€ additional costs/effort (which is tremendous money for todays beancounters in the automotive industry) into the base S58. They decided for the latter, which is just a blast for every G series M customer! Last M inline six will be there for decades in the used car market with tuned power outbut figures you never dreamed of. The last hooray of the ICE century.

100 Euro? An an engine that costs what? 10K?

As for the bucket seats...surely they'll have them for the inevitable CS/CSL versions...

100 Euro? An an engine that costs what? 10K?
Got your point. The question is:
What is the base engine opposed to the whole engine including all side aggregates and valve train, etc. So the 100€ were mentioned in relation to the base engine. And nobody outside BMW knows, what their internal costs of the base engine is ...
And tbh - I even don't know if this "100€" phrase was something abstract, which Flasch mentioned!? He simply tried maybe to make the point, that they invested a bit more than necessary in the (normal customer) base engine ...
If you want to learn at which places the S58 is clearly overdesigned, just watch the driftbrothers video, were they talk in detail about a disassembled S58!

Last set of photos, data, information
This M240, a normal 2 series, with 374 hp has more power than the 1M and the original M2

- Wheels with a similar design to those of the E46 / E92 M3? (version 2021)

Proportions look bang on. But as seems par for the course I suspect BMW is going to wreck it with shitty/crazy ass styling and detailing.

I hope I'm wrong as I've long been a fan, and twice past owner, of this range.

Will be interesting to see...
It will just lack manual handbrake and manual transmission. While the S58 is a stellar engine, you are stretching it with "last pure ice". There is always Porsche, and for less money, way less than BMW, the GR86/BRZ. I know not for you, you are pro racer, but for most others that have Tesla-style racer skills.
