2 Series LEAK: 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

2023 BMW M2 Coupe — What We Know So Far
Most things they say, are more widely known/expected. But they hint a few things, which I really would appreciate:
  • Carbon roof available from factory (with the F87 only the CS had it)
  • G80/G82 bucket seats available
they also emhasize, that it will be seriously lighter than G80/G82.
I repeat myself: If all this comes true, then the next M2/G87 will give the Cayman a run for its money! Because as a competition model (no CS) it will have a price point way below the current super expensive M2CS, but with the technical ingredients of the new M4 (S58, chassis/suspension tech), carbon roof, bucket seats and a manual and if they get the weight below 1600kg, it is hard to beat.

I doubt that this is true. At most, the M2 will be 100kg lighter. Even this can be a challenge without the use of exotic materials which is cost prohibitive for a car that aims for a lower price point than the M3/M4.

Agree with you! But 100kg is "seriously" in my books :p
Why? Because F82 to F87 was just a delta around 50kg! So 100kg would be something! Why do I think, that this time 100kg could be possible? Because the G80/G82 has grown tremendously ... and I don't expect such a growth for the G87. 2nd: Someone said, that the G29 platform is the base. This has potential for lightweight.

If the question is: Will the M2 feel more nimble to drive than the M4?

The answer is: Yes.

Even 50-60kg weight difference plus a tighter centre of rotation thanks to a smaller footprint, will enough to delivery a noticeable difference in agility. A 100kg weight difference would be phenomenal if achieved.

I wouldn’t get too optimistic at present because in the most recent discussion with M Automobiles at a collection. They plan to again offer the choice between automobiles such as the M2,M2 Competition and eventually M2 CS or maybe CSL further down the line. They describe it as a form of “Poker” It’s the same with the M3/M4 they are not too quick to play all of their hand just yet.

About six months ago, a tribe who'd had no previous contact with any form of civilisation, were discovered deep in the Amazonian rainforest. They exhibited only basic skills in hunting and weaponry, and survived mainly on a vegetarian diet, mixed with occasional sustenance of small mammals, depending on far they would travel in their rudimentary watercraft. Interestingly, it's believed their genetic make up differs further from 99.9% of the rest of the planet's humans than biologists had ever thought possible. Even more interesting, their communication, far from being just a new language, was found to be 80% based on non-verbal actions, and that it relied more on hearing then in any other group of homo-sapiens. It was closer to that of birds, in fact. With this difficulty, it took until last week to decipher what they had been trying to communicate since their first contact with the explorers who'd found them. After much deliberation (and arguments, frankly), it was finally agreed that what they were saying was..."The new M2? Yeah, BMW will do exactly what they've done with the current M2, and they *might" offer a CS or CSL".

The conclusion after this revaltion left the scientists non-plussed. Asked for a quote for the media, the chief scientist said, "I mean, it's interesting that they have an opinion on the new M2, but it's kind of stating the bleeding obvious, isn't it? It's just pretending to prophecise. State something that pretty much anybody with zero connection with anybody in Munich could predict, and then masquerade it as "insider knowledge. What with all the wacky weeds they ingest on a daily basis, and their Shamanic beliefs, we were hoping for something a bit more insightful".

What did the members of the tribe say about the weight of the future M2?

In all honesty: Either the G87/M2 base is capable or not! The CS or CSL can't do any magic, if already the base platform is weak! If the base platform is good, which seems to be the case -> even you hinted at a G29/G15 mix, which would be a good sign - then already the base M2/M2 Comp. with the already known ingredients, will be better than the outgoing F87 M2CS. Where am I too optimistic?

I think it's safe to say that it will have the S58. 3-4 years ago when the first unofficial infos about it emurged, it was said that it will be with the following power outputs: 462 ps, 480 ps, and 510 ps. I wonder whether these 462 ps are for the Alpina version or for the M2. Or maybe the version for the M2 is developed in a later stage and could have a totally different output.

Since the outgoing M2 Comp "only" had 410hp ... and a little distance to the M3 will be kept, i expect something around 450hp.

Just in case anyone had doubts regarding the car that leaked just one year ago.

Worst headlights in lineup.
Rear lights aren’t looking much better either

Which is weird cause, with a few exceptions, headlights and rearlights look great across the entire BMW line up.

Kidneys and hoff-kink look really good though.

Well.... I think the headlights of the new 4er/M4 are absolutely terrible, and I already like the looks of this new 2er.
Speaking about headlight at BMW......Meh, I don't particularly like the 8er headlights either. 3er and X5 are amazing though.

Different strokes. This 2er already looks fabulous to me. Perfect proportions. Awesome old school coupe shape, great Hoff Kink, sweet grille. I cannot wait!!!

I did, but not anymore after these shots.

A reminder of a previous leak. Although the vents are fussy, I'm perfectly happy with the front end: Sleek oval kidneys and unique headlights.

My only reservations are the busy taillight graphics. Other than that, I think this will be my favourite BMW.

So you really think these shitty headlights looke better than the ones on M3/M4 and the ones on 8 series? Seriously? :(

100% do. And not to be different or weird, but just because I feel like the 4er and 8er headlights are featureless blobs. Their redeeming factor is their 'interior design', but the headlights shapes themselves are at the end of the BMW headlight design street. IMHO.

These new 2er lights shake up that design language, and I am glad for it. They're funky and fresh. This new 2er front will be absolutely spectacular in M guise, including headlights. Mark that down.
