So are we talking some at least 6 years to perhaps up to 14 years ?

Personally, I'm quite sceptical. I can easily envision electric drivetrains becoming absolutely dominant in the hypercar segment by 2025/26. "Sonorous"-a characteristic that will be of increasingly diminishing significance to the coming generations of hypercar clientele. It will be all about exterior/interior design and performance bragging rights. And the rapid pace of fully-electric drivetrain development in which range, performance and packaging will be highlighted is the scenario that will eventually render ICEs' not only superfluous, but patently archaic as well. Government regulations will also play a major role in the ICEs' eventual demise. New ICE or hybrid hypercar presentations after...say...2025 ? I personally don't think so.

Besides, the Italian automotive producer's current pathway means it sits below the 10,000 units per year mark, so designing a platform for a fourth model line that would sit alongside the Huracan, Aventador and Urus also seems unlikely.

So, what could Sant'Agata Bolognese do to cater to the transportation needs of customers who long for machines labeled as GTs? For one thing, the Italians could play with the Huracan chassis and give us a mid-engined Grand Tourer.

The move is not new, with its most recent application involving the McLaren GT, but it remains effective, since the transformation the platform goes through compared to its supercar base are manageable.

Of course, front the suspension and the steering, through the engine and the gearbox, to the cabin, there are plenty of areas that need to be retouched en route to the new cozy continent blitzer philosophy.

In theory, Lamborghini is already working at full capacity, which is why, for instance, the company claims it can't even put the Sterrato into production. At least this is the view Lamborghini EMEA CEO Andrea Baldi delivered in an interview we had earlier this year. Then again, perhaps the overwheling positive feedback to the jacked-up Huracan will determine the automaker to change its mind.

However, just like the recent appearance of the Sian took us by surprise, we can''t ignore the possibility of Lamborghini pulling a GT on us.

Meanwhile, I've brought along a splendid rendering to help us pass the time. Envisioned by young designer Esa Mustonen, this pixel play can keep one dreaming for hours, while appearing to tick all the boxes mentioned above.

Are there any updates with Lamborghini, with COVID19, has any of their plans changed? It feels like the Huracan and Aventador platform are long in the tooth.

Probably nothing, restarting production will be a triumph in itself. I wonder what will happen to worldwide sales.
 
They were producing face masks like every other car manufacturer. Probably starting to get back to normal car production now.

It will be interesting how Lamborghini does the car reveals this year. Stuff like Goodwood and Quail have been canceled. (SQ Hypercar, Huracan Evo RWD Spyder and Huracan STO was supposed to debut at those events.) Most likely they will do online events for all of them. Probably Aventador's replacement will be slightly delayed too. We still haven't seen any prototypes for a car that will supposedly debut in less than 2 years time.
 
The Aventador should be up for replacement next year as it will reach its 10 year in production. But it is strange we haven’t seen any mules driving around unlike in 2010 we were seeing the covered up Aventador on the tracks already

Love to know what the Aventador replacement will look like. I am not sure if it will look similar to this car.

I believe it will be Aventador SVR. Track only version of SVJ.
 
And I also read in some magazine but I can't remember which one, they said Aventador replacement is postponed until 2023/2024.
 
Don't get your hopes up, but it could be Huracan Evo RWD Spyder.

You might be right, they said in the press release; "we will present a new car in order to complete our model range".

It will be a shame if its kept in production for such a long time (12 or 13 years), okay I still love the Aventador but its big and heavy nowadays and its gearbox its not the best. That 6.5ltr V12 though is still one of the best NA engines in existence, such a beautiful noise whenever its been driven in anger.
 
What I would like to see in the Aventador successor: a bit smaller, a bit lighter, keeps the NA V12 of course - 820hp+, DCT, better interior and sorted brakes that don't overheat after 3 laps.

What we are likely to see: Just as big, much heavier, V12+electric motors - 1000hp+, DCT, better interior... Brakes who knows, but overall it's not gonna be dynamically that great because it's gonna weight 2000kg+ probably.

I am not sure I can be that excited for a heavy car, even if it means it gets to keep the NA V12. Maybe. Maybe the weight increase is not gonna be so bad. The arrangement the Aventador is using now with the gearbox mounted to the front of the engine is the heaviest one you can have. In a mid engined RWD car, you use a transaxle gearbox, so your differential and gearbox are cast as one unit, saving weight. But the Aventador has a separate rear differential with a separate prop shaft, and also the front differential and another prop shaft because it's AWD. If they put the electric motors to the front, they can completely eliminate the need for this arrangement and just have a transaxle gearbox like a RWD car would. Either way, yeah, the Aventador successor won't have an easy job. Just being better than the lighter Huracan range has proven quite a problem, but it will also have to be faster than the 720s, F8 and their successors which will all use turbocharged engines and be a lot lighter (not to mention cars like the SF90). All while keeping the NA V12 because, really, that's half the reason you buy the car.

Lamborghini are known for their AWD systems on most of their cars and since they want to integrate electric drive wouldn’t make more sense to have electrical motors driving the front wheels and the rear to be ICE or most ICE, somewhat like the SF90 Stradale, NSX or 918? I think this arrangement would keep the weight down. If you think of the SF90, it has a mostly aluminum structure and has this arrangement weighing in at about 1800kg. If you factor in that the Aventador replacement has a V12 instead of a V8TT but with a carbon monocoque then I think it’s safe to assume that the weight would be closer to 1800kg than 2000kg. Maybe I’m being too optimistic but that’s what I’m hoping for. Also I don’t think it’ll be 1000hp, the increase from the LP670 SV to the Aventador was only 30PS, and the Aventador SVJ is rated at 770PS, so I’m expecting something at around 850PS max. An increase from both the V12 and addition from electrical motors. All conjecture and assumptions of course, excited to see what they come up with!
