Joy Defines the Future. BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept.

At the end of the day, BMW are not going to shape the future, no matter what marketing and some fan boys on here would like you believe. All they can do is try to anticipate the future and be ready for it. I'm a BMW fanatic, but to think they alone have the power to change what the public wants is arrogant to say the least.

Simple free market economics will determine whether petrol engines die out. If there are still people rich enough to pay for the ever increasing costs of petrol and the costs of producing such a car, then they will continue into the future. People can talk all they like about responsibility to the environment but what matters to 99% of the population is how much money they have in their pocket. For the majority that will mean hybrids and diesels. To those willing to pay for it, it will still mean petrol.

As the cost of oil increases, so does the viability of untapped sources.

and why is that? This is what has been said by many before you, writers here, journalists, ... hell even Jay Leno said it on top gear, petrol cars will never go extinct but will exist side by side with other forms of transport.

Even BMW has said that. It is not because this concept has been presented that all petrol-engine's will die. But you make it sound like BMW is pushing people into hybrid concept cars. Ignoring what consumers want and foolishly being arrogant at that. This is not the case. Not at all.

Neither is it the case that premium brands have no role in launching innovations and that they only can follow the invisible hand of modern markets and hope for the best.

One prime example of that is the future of hydrogen cars. BMW has been building those since the 70's, waaaaaay before the environment was the next big thing ( but yes, in the centre of the oil crisis )

Even today, the future of hydrogen cars is uncertain, with a lacking infrastructure and no real support of the general public. Despite this, BMW has pushed onwards and did launch a hydrogen 7 series project. This is not following the invisible hand, this helping the invisible hand find something new. To be a true innovator, sometimes you must not only create the product, but also the market for it. Others have followed them and very slowly things are shaping up.

If we all followed your way of thinking and let the market decide, we would have been doomed years ago. The average joe is too stupid for this, really. Wallet size doesn't increase your intelligence. I'm all for a moderate, arrogant dictatorship.

ow and btw, on a personal note: you keep saying you're a BMW fanatic, but seriously, following what you keep saying arround here, you're always a fan of "the previous model". That's not a fanatic, that's a basher hiding his true feelings.

The govenments of the world will decide that for us. Not market economics

As the cost of oil increases, so does the viability of untapped sources.

Looks like you don't give a crap about mother nature. Oh well.

You clearly haven't read a single post from the few people who claim to be the voice of BMW on here. Apparently, we have to accept the future is how BMW see it, and if we don't like it, we can go off to Audi or Porsche.

"Fan of the previous model"? My current drive is only one year old. It's the most recent M model after the X5/X6 M. It has the latest transmission technology. I LOVE it.

I love the 5GT. The new 5 series looks very promising indeed. I recently had a 730d for a week. It impressed me almost as much as the Lamborghini Gallardo did.

Just because I choose to criticise BMW in certain areas does that mean I'm a "basher"? No it doesn't. It means I have a balanced and well-adjusted appreciation and viewpoint.

There are several people on this forum who act like 15 year old schoolkids at the slightest thing BMW do (even gushing ridiculously at the way a disguised rear door looks on an FEP model ) to the point where it's just impossible to take anything they say seriously. Unquestionable and unrelenting support for a brand no mattter what they do just shows that the cannot be objective, and therefore their point becomes less and less valid.

^ So I'm not the only 15 year old anymore Betty???

:t-crazy2::t-crazy2: Good to know. What's also good to know is that having another opinion than you makes one a 15 year old in your book.

The govenments of the world will decide that for us. Not market economics

No. Governments will try to influence by setting taxes, but at the end of the day, if something becomes too expensive then that is the market.

Looks like you don't give a crap about mother nature. Oh well.

Klier, try to hold together a coherent argument. I said day to day cars will be in the majority and they will be economical. Weekend toys will still remain petrol. Where does this relate to me "not giving a crap about mother nature"?

Paranoid are we?

You should pay more attention to what I write Klier instead of jumping on it so quickly. Tell me where I said that having a different opinion to mine means you're a 15 year old? Go on, don't just ignore it. Tell me where I said that.

that bold bit, is enough to make your entire argument redundant. Not bad for a "15" year old boy hey.

Because you are suggesting we can simply seach for another oil field (too deep or hard to dig up before) and pollute the skies with all those gasses?

Paranoid are we?

That's just what it comes down to from my point of view. Sorry if that's the case. You don't have to actually say something to suggest something.

Cars with combustion engines will be around for several decades. Performance cars will have combustion engines because there is no alternative today, maybe tomorrow. One day there will be more electric cars than convwntional ones, the price of gas will then fall due to lack of demand... of course the combustion engine will become history, but not tomorrow.

As long as there is a demand for traditional sports cars, there will be traditional sports cars, even if BMW choses not to cater that need.

Exactly what I was trying to say but I think this is a better way of putting it.

Unfortunately there are some people who would have an argument in an empty room.

Who said these are the same people?

djeezes, you're always bitching about the same people, doesn't really take a genius now does it? As you said, people who claim to be the voice of BMW on here...

So what, seriously, if you're taking all the info members post here for truth, or if you're looking at CM as a the official spokesperson for BMW, than the only one here who should be questioning his maturity is you.

On the one side I've seen you commenting on the remarks of these people as BS on a number of occasions and on the other hand you use these same remarks to criticize BMW on their future plans as being arrogant. You can't have both. That would be the infantile way to approach these things.

wrong, because despite your statement, nowhere on this Board is there a statement from BMW that they won't cater that need. And that's the part that's bugging me.

I have absolutely no idea what you are wittering on about.

There are people who claim to be the voice of BMW on here, and my thoughts on them are well documented so I won't go any further.

There are other people who post with the maturity of a 15 year-old.

Two DIFFERENT groups.

But there HAVE been comments to this effect from several people who represent BMW. You've missed them. Unfortunate for you, but they have been made.

you're clearly not willing to admit that you do have been talking out of your ass the last few pages and that somebody clearly has pointed this out to you. Sadly it appears you can not come to terms with this. I will not repeat my replies again, they are written for you to read them over and over untill the penny might finally drop. good luck with that.

moving on, I wonder if their will already be bits of this concept on the next 3 series.

Eh?

You see it's replies like this which show exactly which camp you fall into. It's futile trying to discuss something with somebody who can manage to find the need to post "talking out of your ass". It's very childish really. Trying to discuss something with somebody with your attitude is like trying to teach a dog to speak Mandarin. Very difficult and ultimately pointless.
