Joy Defines the Future. BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept.

They say its fast as M3 but does it drive and sound like M3 (or even better) ?

People should really heed embargo's.

I have to agree with you on this one. We've been holding tight for 2 days now, but it sucks when others jump ahead.

Now, Carscoop might not have been part of the embargo and might have received an anonymous tip.

As you´ve stated, Will we find the official pics on your webiste at 0:00 (GMT+1)?.

If so, there are only3 hours left.

seriously, what's with the sound BS. We all know electric and hydrogen cars are the future. It will never make a sound like an engine. You want them to fake it with a B&O sound system outside and the option to upload a V8, I6 or V10 engine sound? Or would that be something else to bitch about?
I've heard car enthusiasts whine less about valves in the exhaust.

If it was left to certain people here, we would still be riding horses cause they miss the horse's neighing. But thank god, they are not the ones that make the world go around.

Have you ever heard of a sound module? Your BMW could even sound like the Milenium Falcon if you wanted it to.

Why the Creator of Emotions?

A car can be perceived as emotional , People love their BMW's.
They like how they drive and they like how they perform and how they look.
Vision Efficient Dynamics is an extension of that.

The Vision Efficient Dynamics proves itself as acar that is an emotional expression of BMW's desire to retain driving pleasure when it comes to sustainable motoring."

I wonder if people involved in the marketing department of cars have so much as an ounce of petrol in their veins. Only somebody involved in marketing could make that statement.

True car fans don't want an artificially created "sound".

Why is the future of motoring seen as being so anti-petrol? People said the horse would become useless when the car was invented. Instead the horse became a tool of leisure. And the same will happen to sports cars. People will have a hybrid or fully electric car for town and the working week. The weekend car will be a pure petrol combustion engine. Any manufacturer providing this will get my money and I expect other car enthusiasts money.

An electric car with an "artificial" V10 sound is NOT a replacement for a real V10.

you'd be amazed to know how "artificial" current car sounds are...

but the sound topic is definitely valid
silent cars could get a safety problem, personally i see sound engineers exaggerate the sound of the e-motor in the future - so that its actually more like the increase of the natural sound
kicking an e-motor is definitely going to be a new experience, which makes you probably feel more like Darth Vader then Michael Schuhmacher

The radical two-door, which can carry four people and two sets of golf clubs, can storm to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds while using a claimed average of 3.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. That's as quick as the most affordable Porsche 911, with fuel use that is 0.1 litres per 100 kilometres less than the world's best-selling hybrid car, the Toyota's Prius.

Economy without forsaking ecstasy

Now you guys dont care if a car sounds good or not? You guys want a car that doenst sound anything. Gosh, you guys been brainwashed that you accept anythiing carmakers are doing with the future. If you dont want a nice engine sound, you guys should buy a horse or a pig ti ride. Its time for you guys to join the Amish.

Its simple really, the future of motoring is anti-petrol, not because it wants to be, but because it HAS to be. Oil is a non-renewable resource, some studies say that we have 50 years worth of petrol, some say 120 years. Does it matter though? There is a finite amount of oil left in this world. Even if everyone used a petrol car for a weekend sportscar, you may increase that figure for a few more decades, but it is still finite... Not to mention the cost to the environment a petrol engine still does, weekend or no weekend...

No offence to you at all Just_Me, you are a valued member on this board, but I find it disconcerting how easily you disregard the bigger picture. It isn't a choice for manufacturers to think about the environment anymore... it has become their responsibility - BMW is leading the way, while trying to maintain the best of what we have now, but sacrifices must be made. But this is not a post about saying how great BMW is, because EVERY major car manufacturer has an environmental program now, and in my books thats a good thing.

Sure I, like many other motoring enthusiasts, would love to maintain the beautiful sound and power of a V8, but would I sacrifice those simple pleasures for my future? my childrens future? and heck... the future of mankind? You betcha. Your welcome to call me brainwashed or Armish or whatever, but I'm sure can come up with a few choice words about you too ;)

We all need to change our mindset and at least make incremental steps towards a major mindshift... heck, I'm still running a petrol engine, but I'm trying to shorten my trips, and carpool when can. But even such small steps when done by everyone can make a difference. And for those that don't believe me, I dare you all to watch on youtube, "the home project" or "the inconvienient truth", if only to get reminder of what our future has ahead of us if we don't change.

Gene I am gonna think of you when i start my m3 V8 and go full lock sideways smoking the the rear tires like there is no tommorow.

I work my ass off to make money. Why because i want to enjoy life. And for me enjoying life means 8400 rpm airbox sound, full lock drifts, racing on race tracks. etc. Cars are emotion. And electric cars are zero emotion. I am not gonna buy such car as a vision even if it looked like a ferrari.

I want RWD i want a clutch pedal i want a limited slip diff i want to get connected to the drive.

Maybe the petrol runs dry but no one really knows.

It s good to have such efficient cars for work or daily drives. But next to that i want buy myself a car which i can enjoy that means highrev atmo which set my hair on fire. If i can t buy it anymore then i stop working spend nothing more on cars and gonna see the world. Then i am gonna enjoy life on compleet other way. But i don t buy cars anymore. I am looking for a fun car. I am willing to spends lots of money on it. But not on this.

I like the writing of betty he is right.

I'm an advocate for both sides of the arguments and the watch making industry is a great anology of the fortunes that awaits automotive drive trains.

Prior to the discovery of the quartz mineral's genius use in watches, wrist watches was luxury item only for the wealthy who could afford to pay for precise mechanical work that goes into manufacturing a wrist/pocket watch. But when the first quartz watch was introduced, every man on earth could acquire an affordable instrument to keep track of time. Maintenance of a quartz watch is dead easy too thanks to the fewer number of mechanical parts compared with a mechanical watch, not to mention the low production cost. Today, a quartz watch can be purchased for as little as a Dollar, but ironically people still dream and buy $600,000 Vacheron Constantin and Zenith watches which, although marvellous, don't keep track of time better than a plastic Mickey Mouse cars.

Although electric drive trains are destined to dominate the dealerships in 10-20 years time, gas guzzlers won't seize to exist tomorrow. They'll be around for many decades to come, until people no longer desire to own them. But just like mechanical watches, they'll be a novelty for people have affection for "living" objects with mechanically moving parts and imperfections.

I have 2 mechanical watches. No quartz overhere:)

I like the mechanical side of things and that s why I like a mechanical diff also. Like a highrev engine etc. That s part of the fun. Bmw ///M should care about these customers too.

A dying out species. :D

At the end ... Cars will always be a mechanical machines ... So, no need to panic.

Yet it's true the software & electronics will be even more important in the future. Hardware will only be there to serve the electronics: being a body to the brain. Much more human-like.

Mechanical devices are much more machines than devices based on electronics - which are software (brain) based, and programmed by humans. While pure mechanics is still a hardcore engineering based on basic principles of physics.

The future is electrified. :D;)

But there is so much unanswered questions ... Eg. recharging your car ... Toaday you go ta a gas station, and refill the tank in a minute or two. With an electric car a recharge will take at least an hour if not much more. Also - what about the people who don't have houses (but live in apartment blocks) - will there be a charger for every parking slot in a garage, or outside? :t-hands: Or will they be forced to go for a charge a car on public places ("charging stations") - which I guess won't be like gas stations anymore but associated with shopping malls, movie theaters etc. - so people will do other things when the car will be charging.

:t-hands:

Its going to take a long time before the cars dont have a engine sound. So no worries here, hopefully I'm dead when it happens. Until then I'm going to drive my car everytime I get the chance. Im going to enjoy the country roads and explore the courves as often as possible. And everytime I drive a M,AMG,RS im going to drive like it was my last day on earth. Long live the present.
