iPad 2: New details emerge

Apple have excellent return policy and warranty policy. If anything fundamental is wrong with you device then they will replace it, no questions asked.

I want to agree with you, and you are somewhat right, but not entirely.

Apple has a set of parameters that you must be within in order for them to give you a replacement. Certain documents have been leaked where it shows that if a computer monitor has a dead pixel, they will not replace it unless there is more than one. I think a concentration of at least 5 has to be present in one particular area. The same applies to iphones, ipods, laptops, and the ipad.

They have been exchanging ipads, but there are many people that have not been so lucky in getting a replacement ipad that exhibits the problems.

That's no different from the vast majority of consumer electronic companies. Pretty much all of them have the same terms for pixel warranty.

Fine, granted, that may be the case, but Apple has just recently come in line with this standard norm. However, this pertains to pixels and I gave that as an example.

However, the current iPad 2 issue is not something that Apple is addressing on every single unit that exhibits backlight leakage. Many customers have posted pictures online with excessive light leakage and Apple has refused to replace the product. So, this issue is less defined that, for example, dead pixels.

Like I said before, I am holding off on purchasing an iPad 2 until this backlight leakage issue diminishes to what may be considered standard deviation from manufacturing compliance.

Apple are known to be the worst in the market for what relates to warranty and replacement.

From cheap excuses (dude, you smoked next to the Macbook so it voids the warranty) to outright denial (hey you holdin' the phone wrong)...

Many of their products showed key weaknesses in the past (Mac 26" anyone), they even tried to rape their clients (iPhone price drop) and it hasn't scratched their image, so this will not either.

They are followed not by clients but by apostles, who will buy their newest products no matter what...

I agree with absolutely everything you said. I've owned Apple products and Apple are renowned for solving any issues with a replacement no questions asked, and that has been the case with my experiences. Replacement earbuds have even be sent to me in a matter or 48 hours. You've probably read a few isolated horror stories on the web and thus formed a negative opinion of Apple. If the customer service was appalling then they would impossibly have been able to sell millions of highly premium products with a high repeat purchase rate. Apple has always been focused the consumer experience from purchase to after sales service. It's the excellent customer service that retains customers.

As for faults or products defects, no manufacturer is spotless. Margins in the consumer industry are low and manufacturers do all they can in trying to increase profits by slashing costs where-ever they can. I buy all my consumer electronics with the knowledge that they could potentially be faulty. As long as the faults aren't fundamental and that the return or warranty policy is excellent, then I'm happy. I own few gadgets which I haven't made a warranty claim for.

Rbc:
‘ipads outselling hotcakes,’ iphone 5 due in september

rbc capital markets managing director mike abramsky on tuesday reiterated the firm’s position that sales of popular apple products like the ipad 2 likely helped apple record an impressive fiscal second quarter. In a note to investors, abramsky wrote that tremendous demand for apple’s ipad 2 tablet along with solid sales of the iphone 4 (17 million units) and apple’s refreshed macbook air and macbook pro notebooks (3.6 million total macs) may have led to $24 billion in revenue in the second quarter. The figure would represent 78% growth over the same quarter last year, and is above wall street’s consensus of $23 billion. Rbc sees apple having shipped 7 million ipads in the second quarter, which includes 2-3 million ipad 2 units and is down 5% from the year prior. The firm estimates 8 million third-quarter ipad shipments, and also notes that apple will likely launch the iphone 5 in september — but if it instead launches in june, it could add $1.2 billion to the firm’s $23-$24 billion third-quarter revenue estimates. Rbc adjusted its full-year ipad sales forecast up from 25 million to 31 million units, thus pushing its fiscal 2011 revenue estimates from $99 billion to $102 billion and possibly helping apple to cross the $100 billion milestone for the first time. Apple will report its fiscal second-quarter earnings on april 20th.

i have to say I have never owned any of their products... As a Linux user, I am fundamentally against their closed-system approach, and am quite frightened by Steve Job's personality complex... :D

Guess I am lucky with no problems....

Just to make sure you do not have the problem, what you should do is go into a dark room, make sure the brightness is at 100% and restart the ipad. Wait for the black screen with the apple logo in the middle and see if you have backlight bleeding. It is pretty common now and Apple is replacing countless units and they may move from a case-by-case basis to an actual widespread issue soon.

Apple CS is working hard to get new units reserved for customers with issues at the store.

Lol...Stop playing! Nothing outsells Hotcakes!

BTW...There was an interesting piece on the news concerning the Ipad. This guy had gotten his iPad stolen from his dorm room. The guy downloaded Mobile Me when he first brought the iPad, which helped him find his iPad. Cool App.

Ha! I thought so. Don't buy Apple products though, it can get addicted though Steve Jobs hasn't successfully reeled me into buying a Mac. I still find them to be ridiculously expensive at the specs that I want. Buying a Macbook Pro would require me to use credit while PC's are cheaper and can be payed off in one go.

I already have 150 euros worth of Apps. At least :eusa_doh::eusa_doh::eusa_doh:

So many cool stuff though :bowdown::bowdown:

Currently playing with Sketchbook Pro and Garageband.

Michael, will do that! But if there is a leakage, it's so minimal I am not going to bother replacing it :)

kinda OT but here is one of the first official reviews of the BB playbook ahead of its launch next week.

BlackBerry PlayBook review -- Engadget

At times it baffles me how such big multi million dollar companies have such terrible foresight and planning.

- announced the product way before launch
- had to develop their own OS
- later admit no one is bothering to develop apps for this marginalized OS so now offer users the ability to run a shell Android patch to access Android apps - begging the question: why isn't this an Android device in the 1st place? And, eating up valuable processor power at the same time
- no native email, calendar or contacts limits this to BB customers only, lame.

This tablet is DOA.

Just downloaded BMW Magazine 1 2011. Just insane how interactive and overall spectacular this app is on iPad ......seriously as if I am reading a book in a Harry Potter movie. SICK!!!

Received my iPad yesterday. It's pretty cool.

Congrats! Hope you enjoy it.

Make sure it does not suffer from bleeding, which is a serious issue with the LCD.

Put the brightness to 100%. Go into a dark room and restart your ipad so that the screen turns black and the apple logo comes up in the middle of the screen.

I know they had those available for the previous iPad but many, if not all, were fake. Is this actual carbon fiber?

no, its merely a vinyl skin/sticker. Looks great as a scratch repellent since the smart covers only cover the screen and leave the back bare.
