March 25 can't come soon enough!! Can't wait to buy the new iPad!
Well I don't feel like waiting because if I wait they will be halfway done with the iPad 3 when I buy the iPad 2
Anyways... you did make me scared about the quality of th hardware in the first shipments... Do I really have to be worried about LCD failures and glue coming out??? This doesn't sound like Apple..
....when developers start pushing out sick iPad 2 apps.
The Android camp is still stuck in the 1990s PC state of mind: Spec sheet marketing. Ask any Apple user what's under the bonnet of their iPod or iPhone and they wouldn't have a clue and neither do they care because it's the end result that matter. Dual core Android tablets are even struggling to match the fluidity of the iPad 1, and now they are being totally eclipsed by iPad 2. The situation will get even more dire for Android when developers start pushing out sick iPad 2 apps.
Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has published an interesting prognostication on his company’s website: Smart Covers will generate over $1 billion in revenue for Apple this year. Dediu estimates that 60% of the 36 million iPad 2 tablets to be sold in 2011 will be paired with a Smart Cover. With an average price of $48 — based on sales of 70% polyurethane and 30% leather — and sales of 21.6 million Smart Covers, the final revenue figure is an impressive $1.04 billion. Estimating that the covers cost around $12 to produce, Dediu believes that Smart Covers could add $777 million to Apple’s gross margins. “It will be interesting to compare the Smart Cover business with competitor tablet businesses,” quips the analyst. Apple has yet to officially announce sales figures of any kind from the iPad 2 launch last week
Stunning pictures that truly makes you want to go out and buy one. The smart covers are cool but not that practical. What's the point of only protecting the front. It's like wearing trousers that will only cover the front of your body leaving the buttocks and calves all exposed.
So, it appears that there are many iPad 2s with quality control issues. Many are exhibiting backlight bleeding and Apple is aware of the situation but they haven't publicly said what they are going to do. At the present moment many customers are returning and/or getting exchanges.
This really puts things in perspective for me and concerns me. I love Apple, but Apple prides itself on amazing craftsmanship and great quality. This seems to be the second or third product that they are dropping the ball and it may cost them. I hope they retain their image in the market, but if this continues they may suffer.
Some believe what is going on is that Apple is having iPad 2s put together at such a high rate and shipping them, to please customers that are dying to have them, that they are not inspecting the products as well as they would want to. Who knows, but that could be a possibility.
I am holding off on purchasing one (I was so close to pulling the trigger two days ago) until I know that the screen backlight issue is resolved.
