M2 [Hot!] BMW M2 (2022) G87

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M
As a fast daily driver why not. Nice for some weekend outings with the wife.

But for trackdays. it has become to big and to much weight. I rather take a GR86 to track or a cayman GT4

M has lost the trackday enthusiast with this car at 1725kg. It will go thru brakes and tires in notime.
When people start saying that an M2 is too big and too heavy then you know that something’s amiss. In fact, BMW don’t even attempt to disguise this via its styling - it even looks big and heavy.

Anyhow, you and I both know that 99% of M2 buyers have no intention of tracking their cars and so won’t care about the weight.

Bigger picture:
Considering how expensive cars are becoming, the M2 is decently priced.

M340i: £54,000
C43 AMG: £67,000
M2: £61,000
M3: £78,000

This is fantastic price for a full fat M car that comes with everything you need without additional options.

Power and weight
The power is expected but I am concerned whether it, in combination with the weight, peak torque at 2,250rpm and less playful rear axle, result in poor driving thrills at low speeds. I think remaps will be very popular.

Design
The front end is retro and cute. The absence of parking sensors on the actual front bumper is a neat design touch. However the rear is as attractive as a baboons ass. In isolation, I could tolerate it but compared with the rear of other cars, it’s a disaster.

New M2 vs used M3 Competition sedan
Comparing new to used car I usually not fair but today‘s climate it is. In the past new cars had low apr finance options. This is no longer the case, making used car finance appear more compelling. I love compact proportions but the M2 isn‘t as pretty as it could have been. Although the M3 front end is a bit of s monstrosity, the car has a stunning 3/4 view. The additional power, cooler looking seats, wider exterior and interior colour choices make it worth the additional premium.

Front end is far prettier without the massive grille undoubtedly. First impressions anyway.

The rear however is a little busier!

Lack of beauty/elegance? Sure.. perhaps. But it certainly is a cohesive design, carrying the square design elements throughout the overall boxy body, in my opinion
No it’s not the graphics of the lights are soft curves, especially the rear, the rear boot and the arches are soft. And then mixed with a angle galore fiesta. It’s a bullshit design and you all know it. Just admit it ffs.
Like I admit that the new c63 is superbly boring looking.

I don’t see the point or significance of BMW having cars that look different from one another when they range from weird to downright ugly. If they were gorgeous across the board then sure.

I'm fine that this will be the face of the last ICE M-Car. It's not perfect but will age well due to the absence of large kidneys. Don't look bad even compared with the M5.

In the Autogefuel video the chap mentioned that BMW say 20% of current M2 owners track their cars. Seems on the high side to me, but of all the M cars I'd accept that it was the most heavily tracked model.

The M2 is a popular track car.

How can you tell? Just look at the extensive aftermarket support for suspension, brakes, braces, roll cages, remaps, engine parts, exhausts and carbon fibre body panels.

In comparison an X3M or M5 have extremely limited chassis modification options.

The weight is excactly the same as the M4…..!
No surprise. For the past 4-5 years, smaller cars have been close to the same weight as larger ones.

I thought that these days those kind of mods were about improving the cars performance on instagram, rather than the track :D

Wrong! All the mods are spent on looking and sounding as mean as possible when pulling into a t-junction when exiting car meets.

LEGO Technic should make their version of the M2, it would be the most accurate model ever…

Jokes aside, I like it, it’s a little weirdoo as the regular 2er. The profile is just gorgeaus as the first 2 1er gen’s. The rear is just fu*ked up, but it would need a general design overhaull, impossible to fix even with a LCI IMO.

"• Extensive personalisation using BMW ID and My BMW App. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Personal eSIM can be used in the vehicle. Optimised connectivity thanks to 5G antenna system."

Nice future proofing. In 18-24months, e-sim might make it connecting your phone to the car redundant. Just jump in, take calls or play music from apps installed in the car rather than from your phone.

I hope these apps won't bring an additional weight gain

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
