If the A Class was built to S Class standards, would it be bad for S Class image?
I think not. It would be viewed as small Mercedes instead of cheapest Mercedes. Obviously sales would be very low, which is contrary to business practices of increasing sales. Porsche priced the Macan way higher than the Q5 making it a rather not good value car for those that want the highest badge for the lowest price.
Yeah, and how long before they're bought out by some Chinese company if they go this route? And you think shareholders will like seeing a 70% sales drop?
Porsche is part of VAG. Porsche is a very small car company that makes very few cars. Their economy of scales comes from VAG. What will MB have to fall back on? Making the A class a small S class is beyond laughable. Fanboy pipe dreams.
There were some reviews, back in the days, claiming that the 190E with its newly developed rear suspension had better ride comfort than the W126.No one said make the A-Class a small S-Class, I said build it to a better standard so it doesn't reek of being built to a price. 190E to 560SEL relationship back in the day. Other than size, the later run 190E models didn't feel like a penalty boxy or a knock off.

What they did back in the day doesn't work anymore today. If the relationship between the A/C class and S class was like back in the day, these cars would be twice as expensive.
I do agree with you and wish it was possible, but I just don't see it.
Sad ain’t it that MB is dropping the two best lookers, the S coupe and the CLS?? Makes ya wonderThis is my favourite iteration of the CLS. It's a wonderful, elegant rarity on roads and I'd love to have one. A special and sadly overlooked car.
I honestly am very partial to this CLS. I reckon I'm in the minority, though and, yes, I do feel it's sad. CLS 400d - bring it on - I'd have one in a heartbeat but wow, they're pricey down here.Sad ain’t it that MB is dropping the two best lookers, the S coupe and the CLS?? Makes ya wonder

Same here, It is still the most beautiful car in its class IMO. (definitely more sensual than any of its competitors which is what this design idiom is all about )
Someone here suggested this new version should have been a liftback. I agree space utilization is a big selling point these days. Most likely this key feature probably would have boosted sales quite a bit.
