CLS [Hot!] 2021 Mercedes Benz CLS facelift (mopf)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
Its simple.
Daimer said: the CLS is only to the 53, if you want the 8 cylinder, you must go with the GT-4door.
In Germany there is also a CLS 220d, and also a 43 AMG GT 4-door.

The only thing that I do not like about the CLS, it seems that the ink was spilled while drawing it

If the A Class was built to S Class standards, would it be bad for S Class image?

I think not. It would be viewed as small Mercedes instead of cheapest Mercedes. Obviously sales would be very low, which is contrary to business practices of increasing sales. Porsche priced the Macan way higher than the Q5 making it a rather not good value car for those that want the highest badge for the lowest price.

No of course it wouldn't. Mercedes' quality and build used to be the same no matter what model you bought. I think that needs to come back, no matter what model it is. Yeah Mercedes is hooked on sales now so this return to the 80's that a lot of us dream about will never happen lol.

Yeah, and how long before they're bought out by some Chinese company if they go this route? And you think shareholders will like seeing a 70% sales drop?

Porsche is part of VAG. Porsche is a very small car company that makes very few cars. Their economy of scales comes from VAG. What will MB have to fall back on? Making the A class a small S class is beyond laughable. Fanboy pipe dreams.

No one said make the A-Class a small S-Class, I said build it to a better standard so it doesn't reek of being built to a price. 190E to 560SEL relationship back in the day. Other than size, the later run 190E models didn't feel like a penalty boxy or a knock off.

There were some reviews, back in the days, claiming that the 190E with its newly developed rear suspension had better ride comfort than the W126.

I can believe that. I was amazed that such a tiny car could ride so smoothly/composed and shrug off rail road crossings like a much bigger car. That said, the space in the rear seat was almost unbearable, even as teen.

What they did back in the day doesn't work anymore today. If the relationship between the A/C class and S class was like back in the day, these cars would be twice as expensive.
I do agree with you and wish it was possible, but I just don't see it.

Yeah I know.

Sad ain’t it that MB is dropping the two best lookers, the S coupe and the CLS?? Makes ya wonder
I honestly am very partial to this CLS. I reckon I'm in the minority, though and, yes, I do feel it's sad. CLS 400d - bring it on - I'd have one in a heartbeat but wow, they're pricey down here.

As a driver of a CLS400d I’d be very disappointed if the CLS was dropped. For me it offers something more stylish and premium than an E Class, but more manageable than an S class which can be a little unwieldy to drive and park in UK cities.

How bout I get one and you come visit and drive to your heart’s content?

Same here, It is still the most beautiful car in its class IMO. (definitely more sensual than any of its competitors which is what this design idiom is all about )
Someone here suggested this new version should have been a liftback. I agree space utilization is a big selling point these days. Most likely this key feature probably would have boosted sales quite a bit.

Yes I've said it many times, MB got the product mix wrong. If they were trying to differentiate the CLS from the AMG GT, the CLS should have been a liftback and the AMG should have had a regular boot. The CLS is after all the more 'sensible' proposition. Otherwise both should have just been liftbacks.

The A5's and A7's popularity, even relative to their sedan stablemates, is proof that the liftback versatility is a highly desirable attribute.

Things that killed the CLS this generation:
1. Lack of liftback practicality.
2. Lack of engine variants available.
3. Lack of interior exclusivity. They could have at least given it a unique transmission tunnel or door cards, compared to the E. The shared DNA with 'lowly' E's and C's is far too strong.
4. Lack of configurability in smaller markets.
2. Price premium given the shortcomings noted above.

It's such a shame, because it is a very beautiful vehicle IMO.
