Horrible Parking............

Dude, NYC ain't sh!t. Try parallel parking on the hills in San Fran. :D
We got hills here too, :D.

yeah...NYC and he probably has bumperguard or bumperbully and bumpershox in front

I hate it when my fellow NYers drive around with those things dangling from the back. You don't have them on the 1M now, do you? :D

People who live in big cities like NYC, where probability of getting mugged is higher than finding a parking spot, they don't care about their car bumpers. I have seen car bumpers showing the the bare black base of bumper plastic. Those who can afford have a second car for city. A friend of mine has 2 cars, he leaves the first one at station where he gets on train, and picks the other crappy one at city after he gets out of train.

Exactly.
If you're worried about your car, then don't park on public streets.

I'd kick his teeth out if that was my car.

The thing is, you can't blame this guy for shoving his car between two other cars. Like EMpower says, parking spots in NYC are scarce and it's expensive to park a car in a garage ($500 a month where I live). I expect this when I park the X5/ML. This is the reason we got bumper guards.

From my experience, there's probably room behind and in front of both cars to move, plus those cars didn't move all day.

I think you guys are just jealous of his parallel parking skills :D.

I agree there's a lack of respect for personal property, but there's probably no damage worth talking about resulting from such low speed maneuvers (and his own car looks to be just an appliance anyway). If he were banging his way in with full throttle with half a foot on either end, that would be a different matter. Speaking of which, his ability to judge that space is quite remarkable; it looks like if he were off by 1-2 inches, he'd never have gotten in.
New York City is notorious for limited parking spaces, yet look at the minivans and SUVs lined up along that street...

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.

I'm astounded somebody would make a comment like this.

I agree with Betty. I hate it when people justify illegal parking or damaging other peoples' property with lame excuses like "parking places are hard to find". If that's the way you think, you shouldn't be allowed to drive.

That's not true. I get PISSED if I see someone leaning on my car.... I mean, livid. Somebody banging their bumper all up against my car? Aww hell nawwwww.

There is usually no excuse for damaging others property, lack of parking spaces or whatever. I've spent 11 hours detailing my car once..... 11 hours. I just spent 20 minutes putting my plates on because like a crazy OCD whacko,I was trying to align the plate sides perfectly (screw in, close trunk, walk away, look at car from distance.... too low/high, rinse and repeat), I analyze my cars paint, I've spent countless hours of blood, sweat, tears, brain power to afford my car, and to keep it looking the way I like it. I go downstairs to dust it off after I wash it sometimes, I'm a car fanatic whacko, but I have every right to be. Nobody has the right to make all that energy I put in go to nothing, by damaging my car, etc.

Where? LOL

San Fran

Yeah, not as crazy steep as SF's but there are steep streets up in Harlem and Washington Heights :D

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.

With all due respect, not everyone has a private garage or is willing to pay ridiculous amount of money for a space when there's one for free.

First of all it's not illegal, otherwise he would've gotten a ticket. Second, I don't see broken headlights or taillights to say there's property damage.

Gee, you guys are making it sound like the guy rammed his car onto other cars with the intention to cause a lot of damage to other cars. He's causing as much damage to his bumper as he is causing to the other cars. These bumpers were design to absorbed an impact like this.

If you've ever been to NYC, you'd see all types of cars driving around with chipped bumpers. Like it or not, this is part of living in a big city with a car.

Yeah, I shouldn't be allowed to drive because I tell it like how it is. Maybe you should move into a big city and experience what it's like to find a parking spot.

If my LP was parked there instead of the minivan do you guys think he'll do the same ?
I have a good lawyer and I can afford beating his ass :D

You wont need lawyer! You really think people around would let that disrespect happen to a Lambo? :D

What a completely idiotic statement. If he is not able to get his car in to the space without touching other people's cars, then the space isn't big enough! What part of this really, really simple concept do you not understand?!

I am stunned. Absolutely stunned. I'd love to think you were trolling but sadly I think you're not. I've never read such an idiotic post on GCF, and that's saying something. I really do not know where to begin to say what utter crap you're writing, so I'm not going to bother.

And don't patronise people by saying "this is NY, you don't understand". I've spent half my life in NY over the last ten years, and what you've written is utter crap.

If there is a space for free, then what's the problem here? For me, the cost of a parking space is part of the unavoidable costs of motoring.

First of all it's not illegal, otherwise he would've gotten a ticket. Second, I don't see broken headlights or taillights to say there's property damage.

The 'illegal' part in this case comes from causing damage (scratches count). Whether he's causing damage to his own car is beside the point - he has the right to damage his own car as much as he wants to, but he has absolutely no right to do anything to other people's cars. As for myself... if I'm going somewhere where I'm unlikely to find a parking spot, I don't take the car. If I lived in NYC or any other big city, I probably wouldn't have a car in the city at all.

If it's not true, then show me the damage. ;) (And as it relates to the law, show me how the damage was due to this guy's actions and not due to the actions of the 40 other drivers before him who did the same thing.)

And yeah, that's just you. Somehow, I doubt the people who park their minivans and SUVs on public streets in NYC really spent 11 hours on detailing their vehicles...

However, I have every right to pay for, detail for countless hours, and expect my bought product to be unharmed in public.

Nobody has the right to render my countless hours as useless due to their own carelessness or because they drive some POS that they don't care to care for.

Hey, sometimes you're out, eating, and you have no napkins to wipe mustard or grease off of your hands, I assume it's okay to let your fellow citizen use his white T-Shirt as a rag? I mean, it'll only be a little spot, right, it's not like your ripping apart the whole shirt?

I can't believe that even on a car enthusiast Board, where people come to waste away hours obsessing about cars, we can't get an absolute decision that people literally touching your car without permission is absolutely OFF LIMITS!! :D

Another good way to disprove that the era of functional "bumpers" in terms of being able to "bump" exists (which I don't believe ever did in that context anyway) is how most modern cars are losing bumper functionality anyway. Fact is, most newer German cars fronts are mostly flat, with the "bumper" consisting of soft pieces such as grills and large air dams. Very easy to damage with even the lightest of scrapes. Also, cars don't have protruding elements on the rear bumpers anymore, just exposed styling/paint, i.e bumpers are completely form related now with so many cars.
