F90 M5 vs W213 E63 S AMG (Drag Race)

It's just ONE factor in what could be MANY factors. Without comparing it with a similar age M5 you can only guess. Who's to say it isn't the higher torque and 9-speed gearbox of the E 63? Maybe the E 63 has been "tuned"? A similar age M5 still may not win. You're drawing conclusions without sufficient evidence. And that goes the same for the E 63 too. Even a half-baked scientist will tell you that these tests are anything BUT scientific.

Had the M5 won, the usual BMW lads would have been saying the same. For God's sake, Klier was saying the M5 was going to demolish the competition before it had even been launched! Hyperbole, joke, whatever. The point is, both sets of fanboys are as bad as each other.

So you turned up and klier, at least the old school bmw fans have some decency in them to crawl to the cross and admit defeat.
Many are still missing though.

But I will not loose hope, one day they will re appear, I belive it will be as soon as we have a test where the M5 wins.

I have it on good authority that carwow have agreed to re-run the drag+rolling+braking tests as soon as there is sufficient, ambient temperature. They are also willing to ensure both cars wear identical rubber as the M5 was on inferior Pirelli P Zero's as opposed to the E63S's OEM Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's.

Lower ambient temperature has a negative influence only on the traction, but for the turbo engines it gives additional power. In that drag race I don't think its a matter of traction, so the tires also do not contribute much for the lost of the BMW. Its obvious that this particular AMG has more accessible power than this particular BMW.

This BMW M5 side by side with an M760Li, would have still lost by 0.1. Maybe the V12 is a beast and really puts out +750hp to mask the +300kg weight penalty. Car and Driver got the M5 to do 10.9 in California in the same test the Mercedes did 11. An 11.4 is probably the slowest M5 yet right?

For me it's a clear win for the M5. It demolishes the AMG from 0mph to about 30mph and in the end that's all that matters when you are tailgating Dacias in stop and go traffic.

Being serious for a moment, Differences in specification between the cars are the reason why one will win over the other - that's fine. Deviances from these specifications are uncontrolled variables and they are the kind of thing that undermine the validity of the test from a scientific standpoint, and anyone seeing this as anything more than a bit of visual and aural fun for car fans should accept that.

Tyres are important for drag racing.
