The AMG sports suspension based on the semi-active air suspension system AIRMATIC DC includes the Adaptive Damping System ADS II and allows the driver to choose between more comfortable or very sporty handling characteristics. The shock absorbers and springs instantly adapt to the current driving situation, but can also be manually modified in three stages at the touch of a button.

The high-performance engine of the new CLS 63 AMG is partnered by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission, which offers the driver a choice between fully automatic and manual shifting, with changes actuated either at the selector lever or Formula 1 style, by a press of the aluminium gearshift paddles. Appropriately, the powerful engine is also mated with the new AMG sports suspension, based on the semiactive air suspension system AIRMATIC DC which incorporates the ADS II Adaptive Damping System, and with the new AMG high-performance brake system, which provides plenty of stopping power thanks to composite front brakes and vented and perforated brake discs on all wheels.

Then the E's airmatic in 2002 added adaptive dampening as well, and now this is just a 3rd generation that probably opperates a lot more efficiently etc (hence the ADS II). So in actual fact airmatic has had adaptive dampening for a long long time.I believe Mercedes had this in some of their cars from the 70's, it wasn't very reliable though.Mr. Mercedes said:The adaptive nature of this suspension has been a feature of airmatic from its introduction in the S-class in 1999 no?Then the E's airmatic in 2002 added adaptive dampening as well, and now this is just a 3rd generation that probably opperates a lot more efficiently etc (hence the ADS II). Well that's my understanding. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.
ALI said:You guys , the CLK does not come with neither in the regular lineup . I think that's why they just added ABC , since the project will cost them anyway and the car at that level of power needed that kinda modification .

Im not talking about copy, this dont exist in E55 but in E63. Why? Probably because M5 has it. thats what Im saying and it has nothing to do with copying. So obviosly MB studied the compeition and now its available for E63 AMG..
Just because I say study the competition then I dont mean its something bad.

Mr. Mercedes said:No no Just Me, I don't have a problem with what you're saying. I was just under the impression that since the standard 2002 E-class airmatic had adaptive dampening, surely the airmatic equipped E55 also had this adaptive dampening? Now with the E63 the adaptive dampening has again been upgraded which is why its been mentioned in the press release?
Hopefully a more knowledgeable MB fan can tell us if the airmatic system fitted to the E55 did in fact have adaptive dampening?I don't understand why it wouldn't have it when the standard system did.
