DE TOMASO ISABELLE
Is that the P72 for the racetrack?
The Italian sports car manufacturer De Tomaso is teasing a mysterious model. On September 15, 2021 you want to pull the sheet off a new sports car. But what does that mean?

In 2019 the legendary sports car brand De Tomaso reappeared and presented the P72 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The model shares the platform with the Apollo IE. In contrast to the presentation model, there is no V12 under the glass bonnet of the P72, but the production version is a five-liter V8 with supercharging and more than 700 hp. The Ford unit is supposed to deliver 825 Nm to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox.

De Tomaso Isabelle with Power-V8
So much for the well-known P72 model. The now teased model shows itself in the style of the P72 with a distinctive rear spoiler and diffuser, towering fenders and a low cockpit. Based on the Formula 2 model from 1959, which bore the name of Alejandro De Tomaso's wife Isabelle, we could see a racing car in this tradition again in mid-September. His "iconic American sound" can already be heard in the video - here, too, a V8 unit is clearly making a noise. We suspect the De Tomaso Isabelle gets the same eight-cylinder as the P72 with more power. In return, the interior is lighter in weight.

By the way: The Argentine Alejandro De Tomaso founded a car repair shop in Modena, Italy, in 1959 thanks to the financial help of his wife Isabelle Haskell. There De Tomaso designed F1 racing cars for its own works team and for customer teams. He later concentrated on developing sports cars for the road and in 1963 presented his first model, the Vallelunga. He achieved great fame with the Pantera and later with the Coupé Longchamp. In addition to its sports car models, the automaker also took over numerous companies such as Carozzeria Ghia, Benelli, Moto Guzzi, as well as Maserati and Innocenti.

Persistent economic problems forced De Tomaso to sell all investments - including Ford. After various attempts to regain a foothold with new models, De Tomaso Modena SpA had to file for bankruptcy in 2004, one year after Alejandro's death. It was settled by 2012. Two years later the Chinese consortium "Ideal Team Venture" took over the naming rights of De Tomaso.

CONCLUSION
With the De Tomaso Isabelle, the Italian brand is holding out the prospect of a second sports car in Chinese hands. The model is reminiscent of De Tomaso's wife Isabella, who was a successful racing driver. It is questionable, however, whether even one De Tomaso model will ever see the light of day. The P72 is not expected to be built in the USA until 2022, although no production location for the 72 models has yet been found.

What a specimen. Great mix of restomod, Spyker and old cars like XJ220 and Ford GT.

Interesting that the car is RHD.
No so convinced by the looks though, it's a bit too "wavy" for me.

The details are stunning. Look at the wheel centers and the rear lights!
I also love the details in the interior especially the machined real metal instrument clusters and that gearshift

If you guys thought that the P72 is a sensational looking machine, wait till you see this. De Tomaso have launched this track only machine the P900 with a V12 that revs to 12300RPM!!!! Only 18 will be built at $3mill each.

De Tomaso P900 Debuts With V12 And 12,300 RPM Redline
The curvaceous track-only machine has 900 horsepower and costs $3 million.

There used to be a time when hypercars were few and far between but now it seems like we're getting a new ultra-powerful, high-priced beast on a weekly basis. De Tomaso Automobili is introducing its curvaceous P900, a track-only machine that bucks the trend by avoiding electrification. Limited to only 18 cars at $3 million a pop, it is touted as being carbon neutral thanks to a newly developed V12 engineered to run on synthetic fuels.

The engine is shaping up to be a marvel of engineering as De Tomaso claims it's the smallest and lightest V12 ever developed, tipping the scales at just 220 kilograms (485 pounds). It revs to a screaming 12,300 rpm or 200 rpm more than the Cosworth V12 fitted to the Gordon Murray T.50. The naturally aspirated mill produces 900 horsepower in a vehicle that has a dry weight of 900 kg (1,984 lbs), thus giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1 akin to the Koenigsegg One:1.

All that power is channeled to the rear axle via an Xtrac sequential gearbox, but the mighty V12 won't be ready until near the end of 2024. Impatient customers can have the car as early as next summer if they're willing to settle for a Judd V10, which is related to the engine used by the Benetton B197. If the name doesn't ring a bell, it was a Formula 1 car driven by Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger during the 1997 season.

As far as styling is concerned, it’s almost as outlandish as the Apollo Intensa Emozione (IE). That’s no coincidence since the two cars were penned by the same design team. The look of the P900 has been perfected in a wind tunnel used by F1 cars from which the hypercar has adopted a DRS-capable active rear wing.

Performance figures have yet to be disclosed, although the company says the P900 will be just about as fast as an LMP race car. In other words, it should be a worthy competitor for the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro, another hypercar without a license plate. Complementing the model’s debut is news about a De Tomaso Competizione racing series where one-percenters can have fun at dedicated events.

These official renderings and preliminary specifications serve as a preview ahead of next spring when De Tomaso plans to fully reveal its V12 monster

It reminds a little of the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus 007. But the engine on this is incredibly impressive!

They are taking great "inspiration" (to put it mildly) from the Ferrari 330 P /412P, although they'll say is from the De Tomaso Vallelunga and their earlier race cars, but the similarities are more akin to the Ferrari.

The result is too kitsch for my taste, and if anything, I would prefer an homage to Pantera, or even more, to the impossibly good looking Mangusta.

Taking into account that in 2011 the infidels who owned it were going to make this "deauville" (thank God, no), those who presented it are quite good.

I think that light blue p72 is a beast of beauty and that the P900 is pure madness

Hopefully they make cash with these hypers to be able to do the ones you mention and my favorite:

Incredible noise coming from those V12 engines. On video they are loud and I can't even imagine the savage noise inside the cabin. Its music to the ears and there are a few other things I noticed when the car was driven on the mountain pass at pace:

1) The cabin looks very airy with the large curved greenhouse and glass panes in the roof.
2) The cabin looks quite a bit cosy and maybe could be cramped for 2 big passengers. It doesn't seem very wide inside.
3) The cabin materials and styling looks really luxurious and jewel like and is beautiful to the eyes.
4) The car is really beautiful on the outside and on the road looks like a streamlined insect. It is an attention magnet.
5) The V12 engine sounds amazing outside during the driving scenes, it sounds like an old V12 Formula 1 car.
6) The engine sounds really loud inside but with a depth of melody and noise that is sublime. The only thing it makes a high pitched wining sound which could get annoying after a long period of time.
7) In attack mode on the winding mountain pass the car corners with high precision, with sharp, quick reacting direct steering with hardly any body roll.
8) Car corners very flatly with no understeer or oversteer noticed.
