Bye bye X5, finally I got my dream car

Congratulations Mr. Sikorski. I dream to get a chance to just drive a manual M5, let olone own one!!You are indeed very privelaged, as the manual M5 can not be purchased over here (in most parts of the world actually).

I hope it gives you all the fullfillment you have nurtured for so long and gives you many many years of joy and motoring pleasure :)

The manual was requested by BMW North America and seeing as this was the largest market for M models , They gave it the go ahead but in Munich and indeed the M Division have completely disowned the manual M5 and M6 because it does not accomodate well with the car - more hype than actual purpose.

The reason why BMW will not offer the manual in the current E60 and also the fact that the E60 M5 is all about a symbolic relationship with the BMW F1 programme in our marketing with the SMG transmission.

That is why the next M5 will not only be offered with a new upgraded version of the Dual Clutch Transmission or M-DCT.
But will also be developed with a from-the-ground-up manual rather than a conventional hand-me-down gearbox transplant.

Even Gerhard Richter dislikes the manual E60 M5. He say it is not right for the car. He actually had the balls to say that when questioned at the US press launch.

I personally prefer the SMG because I can just shift into Drive for tedious short journeys plus having the Touring is great especially with all the room in the back especially if you have to get to a press launch with the boot laden with press kits in another country, plus it gets mistaken for a regular Touring with M-Packet until it leaves them dead with that symphonic exhaust tone from the V10 using it's full 507 horse power orchestra.

From what I remember, all the initial reviews of the E60 M5 manual were a run of the mill, mainly because M had set forth quite a bit of limitations (the traction control management systems could not be fully disengaged) which made the manual version lack the joie de vivre of its SMG sibling. However, on the facelift (MY'08) I believe there was a firmware upgrade made to the manual transmission (DSC could be completely disengaged), which made it significantly more enjoyable car to drive.

You can call me crazy but I prefer manual gear shifting with my right hand shifting near the hand brake
And I prefer to hold leather than pushing plastic pedal shifters :D
SMG isn't fun enought, you must feel the power and the vibrations going trought the shifter :D
That's what I'm living for :t-cheers:

No VroomVroom, I'm quite sure he'd be really surprised. I bet she's been holding back, and he'll be shocked:).

Cars are like clothes/hair-new style, new attitude --

Hope you have still a lot of fun with this rocket!!

Just noticed that it is a manual transmission!! Stunning!!! How do you like it in combination with the V10!! Must be pure fun…

Oh yes, it’s pure ecstasy, my rides are so exciting, especially when I press M button on my steering wheel car just cant wait to get some acceleration. It’s just crazy on the road. This car is really made for a track or German autobahn. It’s still very nice and comfortable for rides here. I have to admit it takes a time to get use to this car and I’m getting there. Already 1800 km and it’s a very pleasant driving experience. Next week I’m going for an oil change and then I’ll be able to push it to its limits. Heavy for a gas but I don’t care. It is very comfortable; seats are great and very comfy. I love the active backrest, every time the car turns; the seat grabs you gently so your body won’t move to the side. It’s a great feeling.:icondrool:t-drive:

Back in business. 2 days ago I broth my car from storage place. Procedure was simple and everything went with no troubles. I open my trunk using buster cables connecting my M5 to X5, then connect battery and just start my car. Car started with first attempt. No loss of memory (only clock) everything else is working perfectly well. I enjoy my car yesterday. What a joy...:t-cheers:
