X1 BMW X1 Concept: Official pics and info.

This is a cool BMW. I think this will be very popular with the younger demographic. It is also perfect older people who don't want a big SUV but the like the extra height because or bad knees, backs etc... This car has win written all over it for me.

Q5? The pics you've posted is of A1 Sportback Concept.
Which indeed has similar base form of the rear light cluster. Now ask yourself which one of the Concepts is more production ready.

Regarding Q5 vs X1 tail similarities ... I see none at all.

The more I see it - the more I like it. One of the real-world stars of this years Paris Motorshow. Certainly my highlight. I could easily see an X1 xDrive23d in the garage.

It's really low - like 13 cms lower than the X3. That's huge.

I like the reallife shots. Front is starting to look even better than the back

I actually like the back of the Q5 more than the X1, but the rest of the X1 is better.

That's why X1 is not really an SUV but more a sporty crossover.

So, 14cm lower than X3 but almost 12cm higher than 3er Touring.

Don´t you lie yourself, the front is almost identical to 7er in many ways, starting with the front lights. I think the main problem of this car is that is has the same size as the current X3, and the olny thing that wants BMW with it is a low-cost X3 for more people.

Thats what i was referring to. Those 'nostrils' and the line that runs across above them. Yes the light has some 7 in them but a bit of the dodgy 1er too. But i guess we should be more than used to these front end designs from BMW by now..

Overall it isnt bad looking tho

1. X1 looks like 7 series in the same way 3er looks like 5 series. The headlights do have some resemblance, but are hardly the same.

2. X1 and X3 are, not even with the current X3, not the same size. The only thing that's almost the same is the wheelbase, but that only is because BMW is the master of short overhang....the newer the car, the shorter the overhang.

3. X3 will very soon be replaced, and will grow in size. People had the very same arguement I remember when the now old X3 was brand new, and BMW hadn't released the new X5 yet: current X3 and E53 X5 (previous model) were close to the same size too.....until the E70 X5 came.

Inside story: BMW X1 goes RWD



The new BMW X1 - previewed by the Concept X1 at the Paris Motor Show – will be offered in both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive configurations when it goes on sale in 2010, according to BMW insiders.

BMW has previously resisted producing two-wheel drive versions of its SUVs, but the company believes that weight savings and efficiency gains will persuade buyers to accept a rear-drive only version of the X1. The company is expected to offer the rear-drive X1 with four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.

To differentiate it from the four-wheel drive X1, BMW is planning to introduce a new ‘sDrive’ badge. This will lead to a complicated naming structure, with model names like the BMW X1 18isDrive.

Larger-engined versions of the X1 will have four-wheel drive as standard, and will wear the same xDrive badge as the X5 and X6.

Turbocharged four and six cylinder engines will be offered with the 4x4 drivetrain, including an uprated version of BMW’s 2.0-litre twin-turbo common rail diesel which will produce ‘well over 220bhp’ according to our insider.

The production X1’s looks will be very similar to those of the X1 Concept, and are inspired by those of the bigger X3 and X1. Premium manufacturers are expecting that the compact SUV segment will grow as demand for larger off-roaders weakens. Land Rover will introduce its sub-Freelander LRX in 2010, Audi is working on a Tiguan-based Q3 and Mercedes is set to spin a compact ‘GLC’ off the next-generation B-Class.

The X1 is based on the same platform as the 3-series, and will be built alongside it at BMW’s Leipzig plant in Germany.

Thanks bro - yeah - I seen it. Still doesn't tell me how high off the ground it is.

I don't need this car to be a full-on bushwacker - but decent ground clearance of 185mm + will be a real win down here with all the dirt road driving we can do.

Interesting! a 177hp diesel engine RWD X1 and interior a la X5/X6 this could be my next everyday drive!

I wasn't a big fan of this new BMW model naming policy when it was first introduced and I still aren't but Autocar got it wrong above.

It would be called X1 sDrive18i, not X1 18isDrive.
