You will see that sticker in Geneva. Gonna stop for now :)

If that is it, I wonder how much weight they will be able to shed off. The M6 is a fatty.

Yes, and it's a normal M4 with decals and a fire extinguisher in the back.

The Moto GP Safety car sticker on the side of that M4 being tested is for shitz and giggles and nothing more.

What I said was this: The M4 tested now, might have the GTS stuff underneath, but it's not the actual GTS car.

No, that is not what you said. This is what you said, verbatim: "That whole M4 GTS rubs me the wrong way a bit. The only M4 that I know BMW is testing is the M4 MotoGP Safety Car. I don't think that mule is the M4 GTS."

Now you are saying, it "might have the GTS stuff underneath" - well, guess what? That makes it a M4 GTS test mule!

Of course there is a GTS or whatever will be called coming, actually several special M3/M4s in the next few years. But it won't be in Geneva. 100%

Definitely stand by what we said, it's based on concrete info :)

Well, I have no inside information what so ever, so I have no idea what will be in Geneva or not. But I do have common sense and it makes absolutely no sense they are spending time and money to winter test M4 MotoGP safety car. So, the fact they are doing it, means it is highly likely they are testing something more substantial underneath that is going to go into a production car.

The M4 "GTS" is the "future M production model, launched within 15 months, featuring standard OLED rear lights" and the "high-tech new USP that is even more M-like". And will also be the M highlight of BMW's 100th birthday. No M7, no M supercar, no i8S ... "just" M4 GTS. Sure, there will be some "100 Jahre" editions of other BMW models, and there will be a design exercise for Concorso d'Elegance ... but that's more or less it.....
Are you sure about that?
I know a couple of guys involved in what they call the "birthday car" and the few infos they give sound very promising and not at all like 'special edition' or so. However, I do not know whether it will be THE sports car everybody is longing for. I just heard 'oh, that is a beautiful thing'.

@EnI, ok fine, valid points taken and business rationale accepted: BMW will not waste millions of Euros on a once-in-a-lifetime special model to celebrate BMW's centenary as one of the world's greatest car manufacturers. Hey, let's not make an unnecessary song and dance about it just to give Internet fanboys some anti-Stuttgart ammo.

But, if BMW isn't going to waste money doing the above then at least give BMW fans and owners something to be happy about; at least pass some of the happiness on to your customers... Give a trade-in incentives to existing owners, increase the standard line content as special offers, pass back some value to your loyal customers.

Don't do nothing, though, give the people who love BMW for everything there is to love about the brand at least something to remember, something to commemorate what is surely a great milestone in the history of the automobile.
When Mercedes Benz celebrated their 100th birthday in 1986 I don't remember them bringing out any special new model, although the times have changed, it would be nice if BMW could bring out something special, maybe a unique model like an M7 or i8M (only in the dream world). An M4 GTS although a fantastic car it will be no doubt, but it could might as well be launched in another year as it is not special enough for celebrating 100 years with a bang.

That is correct there will be the birthday car and there will be a new 5er which in the realistic terms of the company is strategically more important. Launching the new 5er in this time is a stroke of genius. The next generation of the car that defines the company and made its name. The MINI brand car might steal the day though. It answers a lot of questions in terms of meeting legislation etc.

They launched the W124 a milestone if ever there was one.

Yes the W124 was a milestone, best medium sized saloon in history!;)

The highlight of the centenary will be the all new 5er which will be presented during the celebrations.

The new 5 Series is being launched exactly on schedule and would have happened in 2016 whether it was BMW's 100 year, 99 year or 101 year anniversary.

So, bearing that in mind, what you're saying is the highlight of BMW's 100 year anniversary is something which would have happened anyway.

As we said, the M4 MotoGP Safety Car is the Geneva premiere. NO GTS.

World Premiere: BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car with water injection

No, that is not what you said. This is what you said, verbatim: "That whole M4 GTS rubs me the wrong way a bit. The only M4 that I know BMW is testing is the M4 MotoGP Safety Car. I don't think that mule is the M4 GTS."

Oh please, stop. That is not what you said that was contented by me. This is what is you said again for, the 2nd time, verbatim:

"That whole M4 GTS rubs me the wrong way a bit. The only M4 that I know BMW is testing is the M4 MotoGP Safety Car. I don't think that mule is the M4 GTS."

The contention was not what will be revealed in Geneva, but what the car seen testing on snow is for?

I also said I clearly have no idea what car will be revealed at Geneva and that that what ever will be revealed in Geneva won't mean anything as to the nature of the car being tested in snow:

Just to be clear, I am not saying what ever mystical M car BMW is apparently going to show at Geneva will be the GTS. But your assertion in the post below that there is no M4 GTS and the M4 test mule is the MotoGP safety car is very likely wrong. So no, we won't necessarily know anything immediately after March 1st.

So save your smug "told you so".

Klier wins the award for this because it is indeed a pre-run for the "Progressive" M4 model which we will see in a years time.

Although they are looking at some interesting ideas for progression.
They have even made a mold of the M4s Weight bearing section in CFRP which if used in this way would bring more lightweight technology to the M4 and undercut more expensive rivals that use very little of it.

The interesting thing at M is that they might go crazy and showcase a Diesel-hybrid M4 which they are actually testing just now using the technology developed under Power eDrive, although this M4 is developing up to 600 PS using a four cylinder.

Do I get an award for saying it would be a complete and utter anti-climax?

I must have said that, surely? It's the sort of thing I would say.

"Looking". "Might".

In the mean time, what counts is what is ACTUALLY happening, and that's absolutely sweet FA of any interest.

Many aspects of technology and product development from BMW have come about because of "looking". That's how innovation begins by being creative enough to look at and think.

In the next couple of months there will be another round of drives to test and familiarise with the latest developments within Efficient Dynamics such as eDrive with the 223e Active Tourer. And journalists will also get behind the wheel of the six cylinder eDrive Vision Future Luxury Concept.

scott could you Tell us what is going on with the vision future luxury is there any desicion made about A model from the idea?

Oh purrleaasee. EVERY manufacturer does this, not just BMW. The difference is that you're always posting about it, building expectations, and then nothing comes of it. Remember the F10 M5 that was supposed to have KERS? (for example).

In the meantime, this "M premiere" is nothing but an M4 with a few bits stuck to it to make it the MotoGP Safety Car, and it's being described as a "World Premiere"?!!

What an utterly dull stand BMW is going to have at Geneva, just like last year when the 2er Active Tourer was launched. No doubt the increasingly out of touch decision makers at BMW have chosen to use the space in Geneva to push the Gran Tourer instead of having a REAL concept such as the M2 instead of the uninteresting M4 Safety Car.

So you can guarantee that the test mule is the GTS and not the M4 GP Safety Car? What IF that's the GP Safety Car testing the water injection? Could that be possible?

OMFG, seriously? Are there multiple people behind this one account? Or is it just one really staggeringly obtuse person and/or someone who also suffers from amnesia? I would like to know because I thought we been through this in another thread?

Anyway, I will play...

What do you think the chances are they are primarily developing the water injection system for?

A. The Moto GP safety car
or
B. Some high performance street version of M4 (M4 GTS or whatever it will be called)?

Will ignore the name calling...

But I'll play also.

A. Can you say for sure that's not the Moto GP Safety car being tested?

B. Has anyone confirmed the prototype is the GTS?

This is about the car spotted. Remember. No one denies there won't be a GTS or whatever it will be called.
