You sound like a MB fanatic back in the days when power meant everything ;)
Better to shave some weight, afterall its a sporty Coupé.

I wasn't talking about more power OR less weight. It can be done both, that would be the best. And since it's a turbo engine, it probably will not be hard to give the M6 another 25 hp extra...

oooooooh, as far as aesthetics are concerned, this M5 is ticking all the right boxes. Now its just up to the Engineers at M to rekindle my faith with forced induction.

The F10 5 series has always been a fine looking machine so I doubt they will f*** up the M5. And as for the engine, I have total faith. My only concern if there is one, is how they will make the chassis cope with the vast amount of hp and torque without spoiling the chassis fine balance.

As it is a turbo engine, they can tune the sound, and I guess they are trying to imitate the NA sound, but it sounds somehow similar to the X5 M engine, wich is pretty logical.

Want to be proven wrong for THE tenth time? Between the crappy soundrecording and the rain, this video proves nothing. Besides, you of all people should have learned by now to wait untill the car has been launched before passing judgement.

How am I passing judgement? All I'm saying is that so far, based on the video's I've heard, it doesn't sound very impressive at all. It doesn't mean that when I hear the F10 M5 in real life I won't like it.

From that video, it sounds like an X5m/X6m, which makes sense seeing as they'll share the same engine with the M5 getting a bit more power.

When I drove the X6m, it was kinda weird because it hauled like a V8, but sounded like a 4 cylinder. I think the fact that it redlines at 7000rpm (shift point is around 6700 rpm) makes it sound like an econobox or someone with a bad day flooring a Honda Civic. If it redlined at around 8k+ rpm, you'd get something similar to the flat crank V8 sound (i.e. Ferrari, TVR, Lotus, etc.)

Thanks for the feedback.

This is replicated in the many videos I've watched of the X5/X6 M, and the M5 F10 too. Sad if this turns out to be the case when the production M5 is launched.

As the sound can probably be tuned, what would you like it to be? more NA like the Lambo you´ve tested, or more thundering like the SLS?.

I don't mind really as long as you can actually hear it, which is proving difficult in the videos. If it's half as good as my M3 I'll be happy.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
