1 Series BMW (F40) 1 Series Hatch - from Leaked to Official

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
Very plasticky so far compared to the A-Class. Hopefully the boomerang-shaped trim pieces underlining the central screen and side vents can be had in metal...

Well, we're looking at a pre production test version that will be destroyed when it has served it's purpose. It's not going to be a version with a specced out interior featuring production trim/upholstery.
And since you had to bring up the A class; that car is quiiiiite 'plasticky' even when sitting on the showroom floor for sale.

But it does look a bit plasticky indeed in those shots. I am particularly curious about the trim or whatever it is that's surrounding the (el cheapo version) of the Live Cockpit. Looks pretty awkward.

The center console on G20 feels more premium but the transmission tunnel and overall quality of the interior hasn’t moved the needle.

I think it has, and I feel the G20 is the best quality interior you can buy for this money from any brand.

I wouldn’t be so sure. The F20 wasn’t terrible. Like the F30 the only flaw it had was a plasticky transmission tunnel and centre console. The center console on G20 feels more premium but the transmission tunnel and overall quality of the interior hasn’t moved the needle. It’s still premium economy which is fine.
I wholeheartedly agree. The F20 was quite fine for what it was and in comparison to the then competition. It was not a groundbraking design, that's for sure, but it wasn't a bad interior.

It looks like it's the same case with the F40.

It’s seems to be a modern interpretation (new bmw interior design langage) mix between I the e81 and the first x1 one

I would assume these late pre-production prototypes already very much have the final interior at this point in time where the official unveiling is only 3 weeks away. Probably not in terms of fit and finish, but at least with most main parts being definitive (dashboard, door panels, trim pieces...). This seems to be an entry-level version for sure, but I do hope there will be a few metal pieces around, and I'm not sure about the clearer plastic section around the A/C unit

From my experience these pre production test cars don't usually come with the actual trim options.
And they usually make a big difference.

It's got the Russian doll affect similar what Audi and Mercedes are now doing that the lower end models are almost borrowing the same parts and look from higher end models. The gear shift surround and air vents look almost the same as the X7 except for some more black and fake aluminum silver plastic. I hope the production version has nicer colours for trim and interior seats and doors to make it look more classy.

The 3 series for comparison:

The difference will likely be that the 1SERIES will have trim around the gear selector but none on the dashboard.

I really hope the production version will have more interesting interior trim and colour options as what I can see so far, the A-class has a much more stylish and youthful interior than the new 1-series.

If that A Class interior constitutes what's stylish and youthful, then the youth can keep it. For me, personally, Mercedes Benz interior design alienates me - as a potential buyer - like never before. This new A Class fascia is particularly nasty.

Thank you. I'd be labelled a troll again by the usual suspects, but boy oh boy....that A class interior truly is F!U!G!L!Y!!!!
Has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with a Mercedes. Not even a German car. Hideous.

Simply put, between the pictures posted by Rolf, the pre-production test version of the 1er already looks a bazillion times better than that A class' fully specced out PRESS PIC. You guys do not even want to see the A class in poverty spec.

Imo, those new Mercedes interiors look good when equipped with matte wood. Those parts are mostly finished really well. Their effect (i.e. distracting from other pieces) is particularly striking in the GLE but it pushes the A class interior tremendously, too.
In poor specs, however, those dashboards feel unfinished in several aspects. The black plastic around the vents is an eyesore, the A/C unit looks like it’s been attached as an afterthought ....

The BMW interior looks quite poor again. But let's until press pics. The A-Class interior looks Citroen-ish to me.

Audi is the only brand nailing the interiors on this segment (the new Q3 interior looks fantastic). And VW looks like it is going to screw Golf 8 interior as well.

There is no need to excessively mourn the loss of the 6 cylinder and RWD configuration because there will still be a 2 series with exactly that. I suspect the 2-Series will distinguish itself from the 1-Series more than in the past.

Consumer choice under the brand will be excellent. Choose between a:
Super grippy AWD 1-Series.
A playful and compact 2-Series.
