1 Series BMW (F40) 1 Series Hatch - from Leaked to Official

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
Rear lights remind me of the first gen X1.

At least it looks better than the disaster called A klasse, but really that's nothing to write home about....

It's interesting that M135i leaked and not some basic version.

This is likely due to the fact that the majority of examples being transported around right now are for special previews and such like, and they're always going to be the more high-end trim levels, or in this case, the range topper M135i xDrive.

It's so strange but I honestly like the FL F20 1 series more than this new version. It has nicer looking rear lights. This new version has Lexus copy cat lights, same as the 3 series. What is going on BMW? Front looks good but is so similar to the X2, except the grill shape which is new. X2 has a nicer rear end also.

BMW cant seem to get the 1 series right from the word go.

Very similar to the 1 series sedan lights...hmmm....

Judging by the leaks, it surely can't be too far off being officially revealed.

The post above yours is from a very reliable source, and it says 27th May.

There have been some leaks which have occurred many, many months (or even a year) before the actual reveal. The M8 was leaked ages ago and will only be revealed in June. The G11 7 Series was leaked ages before the official unveiling.

So far so good.

Indeed. The RWD configuration will be loss for enthusiasts but FWD will be a huge gain for everyone else.

Two years ago I considered the F20 as a 2nd car for the family but ruled it out because it was 300mm longer than a Skoda Fabia but had signifigantly less leg, shoulder and head room in the rear. Basically the 1-Series was less practical and worse for parking in the city despite having a bigger foot print.

Packaging in small cars have taken huge leaps the past 2 years and practicality is the 1-Series's weakest area. I'm expecting the F40 to be more credible as a small family car while embodying some driving chracteristics of the RWD F20.

I could see myself swapping the Skoda for an F40 next year.

Comparing the 1er to a Skoda is where the problem begins....
Not at all. BMW even said themselves that when they asked people what they want in the next generation 1-Series, the reply was more space.

When smaller hatchbacks a segment below like are more practical, there is a problem and BMW have addressed that by changing the model to a FWD platform. The F20 has one of the most cramped rear seats of any car in its class despite being one of the longest cars.

Reality is only a question of cost .. by increasing the use of the ukl platform helping bmw to gain around 600€/car compare to previous model ... the rest is only marketing to justify the switch from RWD to FWD

I'm sure that the 7er would have much more space inside if it moves to the UKL platform. But so what. Nor A3 neither the A class are significantly more specious than the f20. The transverse engine configuration eats from the space in the foot well because of the flat fire wall, which causes the pedals to be closer to the steering wheel, which is compensated with higher seating position (in order the driver to be able to fully stretch his feet when pushing the pedals). So more space in the back seat but worse driving position. F*ck the driver, soon all cars will have autonomous drive.
