I like it a lot, but it really doesn't advance the design language.

It just looks like an outlier with no connection within the line-up both current, past, or short-medium term future. I think this would have been an ideal candidate for a bespoke Alpina since that was the plan when BMW fully acquired Alpina: produce bespoke bodies over existing platforms.

Don’t worry if you didn’t have the exclusivity to purchase the Skytop.
Everyone can still own a SkyTop.
Albeit in 1/18 Scale. 😋

Are they all in this boring color combination or did people have some choice? Or did they have a lot of choice like they should have for this price.

Interesting how this was - I believe - the first use of the horizontal slats in the kidneys on a premium (i.e. non-M) car.

The natural daylight presents some interesting juxtapositioning of verious bodymetal surface elements. Flattering ? I can't really say. An eyesore or two ? Maybe. The cleft at the base of the A-pillar and its incongruency with the hood shutline, for example. But that is probably an assembly necessity and the particular angle of the shot overemphasizes it. Petty peeve on my part. Darker colors may serve it well indeed.

Come on, it looks like a photo taken from Artemis II.
